I get where you're coming from about the "world" thing. That's why i prefer the term "Super Bowl champions" rather than "World champions" for American football. I hardly ever watch baseball so I don't really have an opinion about the term "World Series", other than it being a slap in the face to Japan, which is probably more into baseball than the US is at this point.

Do girls play rounders in the US? I assume not or it would be even harder to watch the professional version with a straight face.

I assume rounders is the British version of baesball...? [EDIT: Saw the video you edited in.] Anyway, softball (which is like baseball but easier) is widely seen as a female-dominated sport, but all the major professional sports leagues in the US and Canada, including baseball, are played by men.

See the vid in my previous post for a game of rounders Eldo.
I assume rounders is the old game baseball is based on- they are almost identical, except rounders is a game for girls traditionally.

Well obviously, we arent going to get silly and start including Womens Sport on the thread are we? Shocked (Well ok, Womens Beach Volleyball is acceptable- that is a real sport- and Im willing to consider this Womens roller derby thingy Halfy was on about, once Ive seen the strips they wear of course Nod )

Look at it this way. In baseball, they don't play if it's raining, even if there's no lightning. That should really tell you everything you need to know about the "sport". Nod

Same as cricket- 'wooo its a bit chilly, oooh no its raining! Its getting abit dark isnt it, too scary lets go home" Mad
Thats why cricket isnt a real sport either- any game where both teams can decide just to call it a day due to 'failing light' aand then decide between them just to call it a draw is not a proper game. Evil or Very Mad

Id rather watch rounders than cricket- cricket has to be the most boring, dry, uneventful waste of a day ever invented.
The only reason anyone else other than the english play the game is to humilate their former colonial masters. Which granted, is funny.

I've never watched cricket, but I do actually enjoy going to professional baseball games with people I know for the atmosphere and the social experience. Watching the game on TV is fairly boring, though.

I'm only a casual fan of pro sports, mostly I think because I live in Washington State, which means I'd have to be a Seahawks or Mariners fan. I know many them. They're like people rooting for a sick family member to pull through despite the doctor's diagnosis. Life's to short for that.

I'm not sure what happened but I think I just watched a bunch of men in pajamas stand around fidgeting while a single one of them would sometimes run for ten steps.

Seems like you are completely unfamiliar with women's roller derby. I kinda was too until the local teams played a few games at the school where I work. I got a few pictures, though due to low light and fast motion they are not the best. Nonetheless, here's my offering of a night when the Queens of Pain were challenging the Manhattan Mayhem (the teams from the other boroughs are the Bronx Gridlock, the Brooklyn Bombshells, Wall Street Traitors etc).

You know things are off to a good start when the candy-seller appears (she's one of the teams not playing)

All things sporting - Page 37 Candys10

Then the teams huddle in the middle to plan strategy.

All things sporting - Page 37 Homeba10

Play begins - note body flying.

And of course, one of the boyfriends is eager to play mascot:

"School" refers to college/university. I used to be a high school teacher, now I'm a researcher, and I do teaching in the form of summer science camps for teenagers, graduate student workshops, and courses for science teachers.

Well, if you can write an essay on why iron has the most stable binding energy, I'll be impressed. Eventually the whole universe could end up as one giant ingot.

Good answer. Very Happy

Reminds me of a little old lady I used to look after who was given a test for dementia.
Examiner began by asking her "can you count to 10?"
To which she replied, ""Yes." Very Happy

Typical day in Forumshire really- start talking about a sporting event, move through bunny girls selling candy at roller derbies, and end up at the eventual state of the universe. Perfectly ordinary conversation for here really. Very Happy
