Re: All things sporting
Fortunately, it seems that the lockout might end sooner than anyone expected, according to the ever-reliable (lol) anonymous sources. The real refs seem ready to go and I for one will welcome them back with open arms despite their imperfections.

Re: All things sporting
Aussie Rules players and Rugby players don't need all that padding. And helmets... Wimps!

Re: All things sporting
American football didn't originally have pads or helmets either and was much more like rugby, but too many people were dying the way Americans played it. The game took a big step towards modern football when Teddy Roosevelt stepped in and told the major figures in the game to make it safer or it would be shut down. The lesson from this is that Americans are just too hardcore for rugby.
Re: All things sporting
Umm... too hardcore for rugby? --- that's why they pad-up, is it?

Re: All things sporting
So hardcore that we had to pad up to stop us from killing ourselves.

Re: All things sporting
Why not play soccer (football), as you would only need knee pads then - and some talent for theatre when your leg gets (apparently) broken and then you make a miraculous recovery?

I could try to explain what I was aiming for, but if I worried myself about every instance of you disapproving of a post I made then I wouldn't have any time left to actually post here. I fully expect a snarky response to this post as well.

I'm not a big baseball fan but I'm excited for the Baltimore Orioles who are tied for first place in their division and are going to the playoffs for the first time since 1997!
