Stuff like this baffles me. That anyone in the MOD (or higher) thought this was acceptable to propose suggests that they've just written off the idea of trying to convince the Scottish people to stay in the UK. On the other hand, Cameron clearly does care because he started backpedaling once the inevitable negative reaction began. Shouldn't Cameron have spent some time trying to create a consistent and unified message on this topic by now?

Well the truth is out there-or at least its hidden in the civil service- the internal house name for the pro Union Better Together Campaign is........."Project Fear"

This one has baffled me-there is no way someone in the MoD floated this idea in the press without first getting clearance from the Press Office- as its obviously hugely controversial and at a sensitive time politically, not to mention the basic fact its about nuclear stuff- I also find it hard to believe the Press Office would not have gone through the Minister for clearance.
All of which leads me to believe they were delusional enough to seriously think there was even a small chance of getting away with it.
I think  it does speaks volumes over the real internal panic in Westminster about the basic fact if Scotland goes independent, England will no longer be a nuclear power, as they can neither afford, nor build the facilities needed quickly enough to keep hold of them. And they dont have a plan B. If they were desperate enough to float this idea as plan B you can see how little idea they have got of how else to keep hold of their nukes.
And if it does come to independence,then when it gets to the nitty gritty of negotiations oil and nukes are two ace cards in the Scottish pack. And they know it.
And once they are gone its going to be hard for a future government to convince the English people they need to spend 50-70 billion on getting new ones. As the only people having nukes is any use to are the politicians-who get to feel like one of the Big Boys and it gives them a seat at the important big meetings and so equates directly to power.

I'm not entirely sure I follow. It sounds like he was threatening the stranger who hit him on the head with a bottle, then his wife tried to grab the knife away so he couldn't do anything stupid, and he accidentally stabbed her in the process? Why do I suspect there was buckie involved?

Reading the full BBC article it sounds like he also stabbed someone else quite intentionally and that's probably the main reason for his imprisonment.

Muir then went into the kitchen of the flat and returned with two knives and repeatedly stabbed Matthew Stewart on the body.

At a previous hearing last month, Muir admitted assaulting Matthew Stewart and assaulting his wife to the danger of her life.

My money is on him being a unionist.

If it was just once I could believe it (dude was drunk and angry, wife tried to pull knife away, maybe he flailed out or something). As it is though ... yeeeah.

In fairness though in Scotland if your not stabbed at least three times people call it a scratch.

I recommend running a spybot detection program and a virus checker.
Probably a good idea to uninstall the browser after that too and reinstall it, just to be sure.

It will be intersting as Indepence vote day approaches closer to see how groups like this will factor into things-

'The Labour for Independence (LFI) group has opened its first policy conference with a call to ban the Trident nuclear deterrent from Scotland.
LFI, led by Labour member Allan Grogan, aims to suggest what the party could offer in the event of a Yes vote in next year's independence referendum.
It has claimed support for the group is "rapidly growing" within the party.
"Eventually Labour is going to have to acknowledge there are voters in the party who will back independence."
Issues at the conference include the group's position on Nato and policies in education, health and infrastructure.
The event opened with a discussion on the Common Weal, a project led by the Jimmy Reid Foundation, which looks at possible changes to economic and social development.

Hey, didn't Cameron say recently that he reckoned the English could keep trident and keep it where it was by annexing a bit of Scotland if it came to independence?

Yeah, well sort of- the MOD said it, then the next day No10 backpedaled like mad and said it wasnt going to happen.
Given a noticeable chunk of the British Army is Scottish it would have been interesting to see how it played out if they were ordered to annex it against the will of the Scottish people and their new Parliament!
Besdes what threats could England give us? We have their nukes!
