Watched the first episode of Cosmos tonight (the new one on Fox). Thought it was really good. Damn near cried at the end when Neil deGrasse Tyson talked about when he met Carl Sagan. Pesky emotions.  Sad Mad

It starts in half an hour here. I've migrated to a house with cable TV for the occasion.  cheers

Yes, the personal tribute was a nice touch. Neil seems like a really nice guy, even if he doesn't have that ethereally stoned quality of Sagan. I hope the series is a success.

Is it a documentary? Hard to tell from that trailer what the buggery it is.  scratch

It's the "spaceship of the imagination." It's just so they can fly around the universe. They used the same spaceship idea in Sagan's Cosmos series.

Working my way through season 2 of House of Cards. I can't find myself caring for or sympathizing with the Underwood's or their team/agenda at all. I could get behind Walter White in Breaking Bad 100 percent because he was the underdog, and even when he reached the top, Walt was still there even though Heisenberg had taken over. I just can't care about the Underwood's anymore, and I would love to see them get taken down (although, knowing how these things go, that won't happen).

Whilst I am enjoying series two I dont think Underwood is as charismatic or magnetic a character as he was when Ian Richardson played him the UK version. He was a man you loved to hate, and who drew the audience into his schemes and plots and made you feel guilty for enjoying it. I find it much harder with the US version to feel that way about the character its a bit too cold for my liking and it makes him just someone you hate.

A clip from the first series of the UK version illustrating the point-

I haven't watched House of Cards, but I just wanted to say I agree with you about Breaking Bad and Walter White. I don't think I've ever watched a show that was able to mess with my emotions the way Breaking Bad did. You care for Walter from the first episode, and then you're forced to watch him slowly turn into a madman and a killer, and it gets worse with every season. It was almost a relief to see the end of it, though it was bittersweet Smile

Then go back watch the UK version afterwards- they are different enough to be worth it, and to my mind the UK version is the better of the two even if its not so slickly produced. (also be interesting to hear the views of someone who watched the US version first)

After reading the comments on that link I am confused! The show seems to be science and history taught at a level aimed at children, but if so why was it broadcast at 9pm?  scratch
