I wonder what they're doing at the TORn Oscar Party now.
In all seriousness it's their own fault for going full Lucas with all the cgi and hardly any miniatures, if there were any at all.

Didn't he give a statement after Cinema-Con in response to criticism about making these movies for him?

Re: Oscar Watch
I was just thinking today (yes thinking ) that the crew was sooper talented and enthusiastic, you could tell by watching the blogs they all loved it, but it turned out a real letdown for me. The party was good but even then it was letdown by cringy oh look Gandalf bumps his head again moments, i also thought it was too long too Thorin centered and a wee bit boring. Riddles I liked a lot, I think that was very well done, but the rest was blah, and was saved at the end by the Eagles which were sublime.

Ayup RA...
I'm sure he may have done. He said more or less word for word what I quoted above for the BBC at the time of the films Release , but as far as I know, and I'll have to check some other threads elsewhere here, as-they dont seem to migrate over to Bree, I think there's a Post-Oscar report on his reaction given somewheres here at Forumshire. But all it's going to be, is some Sulky Schtick on the lines of 'Fuck you all, you don't know what you're talking about anyways, just wait and see.', but I'll go have a look... I'd REALLY like to know.
EDIT: NAH. I confused it with something else...

Re: Oscar Watch
Taz, or rather one "PJ Hammans" who has been blogging on THM a lot recently, has jumped unreservedly onto the PJ apologist bandwagon trying to excuse and explain The Hobbit's miserable failure this awards season.
http://the-hobbit-movie.com/2013/03/01/hobbit-nominated-for-populist-awards/
Aside from the blatant dishonesty in the first sentence of the second paragraph, I love the disparagement of "professional Academies". Obviously, as anyone who follows the Oscars can tell you, they're not much of an indicator of quality, being very political. But it's telling when people only disparage the awards after a film they like was "snubbed". Also interesting is that of their examples of "populist" films, the only other one which was snubbed as much or worse as The Hobbit by the industry awards this year (not just the Oscars) was The Hunger Games, another film that is massively overrated by much of its fanbase. If that's the best example they can give, then the Oscars did pretty well in terms of recognizing blockbusters this year.
Also, considering that previous winners of the Empire Award for Best Film include Men in Black (1997), King Kong (2005), Avatar (2009), and Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011), I don't think a win there really says that much about a film. I liked plenty of the previous winners, but they're hardly stand-out examples of cinematic excellence.

Empire tends to reflect what was appreciated most by cinema-goers. You only have to look to the nominations list to see that the most popular films are in there, among them Skyfall, Django Unchained, The Hunger Games, Les Misérables, Anna Karenina, and so on, some of which have been spectacularly ignored by the professional Academies, yet impressed in terms of footfall at the box office.
The rights and wrongs of this are not something to get into here, but we wish The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey every success at both The Saturns and the Empire Awards and you can certainly help out with the latter!

Re: Oscar Watch
Difficult question Mrs Figg: which do you hate more, the Yates HP movies or the PJ Hobbit movies?
Re: Oscar Watch
4/5 of those films listed as being snubbed received a nomination!

Re: Oscar Watch
I hate Yates much more than PJ. Yates is a mediocre hack who made DH 2 pitch black to cover up his ineptitude. PJ has moments of brilliance and is genuinely talented (if misguided in his approach to TH). I look at PJs past catalogue and I personally really think LOTR was a work of genius, but Yates has nothing, he ruined HP with banality, I cant watch DH1 & 2 without twitching in frustration. TH needs a brutal edit but the basics are there.

Re: Oscar Watch
Hobbit fans rejoice! An Unexpected Journey may have been snubbed by the Academy, but it can take solace in the fact that it has won "Best Sci Fi/Fantasy Movie" at the 2013 Empire Awards. It now assumes its exalted position among such past winners as:
Revenge of the Sith
Wanted
JJ Abrams' Star Trek
HP Deathly Hallows Part 1
Thor

Re: Oscar Watch
What a suprise- Empire magazine- or its also known- PJ's advertising rag. I lost count of the Empire Hobbit specials- they were hardly likely to snub it like it deserves.

Re: Oscar Watch
Bumping this thread since this year's Oscar nominations will be announced starting in a few minutes. Normally I wouldn't be awake this early on a day off but I fell asleep really early last night.
It will be interesting to see how DOS fairs. Last year, AUJ was nominated for Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design. It lost in these categories to Life of Pi, Les Miserables, and Lincoln, respectively.

Re: Oscar Watch
I'm sorta watching it/surfing the web, but I think DOS will get nominated for more or less the same categories as last year, but Gravity is sure to win Visual Effects, as I.M.O Smaug was so good he overshadowed the rest of DOS's effects which were kinda shoddy in comparison.
