Re: the all Dog thread!
i know how you feel. my dog, she was called Molly. We had had since she was born. I loved her to bits and she loved me. I could do anything with her, go skiing, teach her stuff, she could do the high five and sit and beg and all. But the thing was, she worked fine with all of my family, but all outsiders it took a long time to get comfortable with. Our grandparents, it took over a year before she trusted them, and they were by the house many times. But new friends, especially those who weren't used to dogs, i'de always have to whach her. I knew her very well and I could read every single thought that went through her mind. I knew what she would or could do in any given situation. so I had to watch her. If the guest did something unexpected, a sudden move or sounds, she would tell'em. Not bite, but burst out and be scary. It was worse with kids, you can't tell kids what to do and what not to do. It was always a reallt hard time for me, and all of us, when we had visitors. Because the guilt of having to put her in a cage and see how she was scared and uncomfotable and the guests being afraid of her. it was just horrible. We knew it was only a question of time before she would bite someone. I kid, most likely. And it was so sad. We hoped we could find a home for her when she was little, but the amount of time it took to get her to trust a person, not to mention a whole family, made it impossible for us to do that. Imagen the guilt we would have if we placed her in someones family, knowing what could go wrong if one wasn't experienced enough.
now, when knowing we had done whatever we could do, we just had to admit that we could do little else. What was in her, the insecurity towards strangers pluss the fact that she was tough and brave and very smart, was who she was. it was inherited. from her mother most likely. It was no normal dog either, from a branch of street dogs in generation. survival of the fittest, so a lot of wildness in her. You could see it in the way she played and interacted with others and when spotting cats and reindeers. She also had a strong pack mentality. A climber she was. Not showing any weakness and a typical dog who would climb to the top when she got older and be the boss. Not towards us, but to other dogs. She was the clear leader of the three pups. meaning she was intelligent and stubborn.
so we put her down. Harderst decision of my life. Because I loved her to bits and she me.

Re: the all Dog thread!
OMG ! I really feel for you,Norc, That is one of the most heart wrenching stories Ive heard in a while ! The passion you wrote, about your best friend & love of your life, has reduced me to tears !!, I had a dog once, from a puppy. It was a Rough Collie. I loved her SO much, but,my ex-husband was far to jealous of her, hated it because we were so close. We were so in tune,we didnt need words,I just looked at her. As time passed my Ex started being nasty to her. I was young & stupid at the time,& I had 3 very young kids to bring up. In the end I found her a new home thru a Rough Collie charity, because HE said "if the dog stays I'l make her life hell !" So I did what I thought was best & gave her away. I sobbed for weeks, got very ill, the new people kept me up to date with her progress,so I felt a LITTLE better. Then, one day,as we were out,I saw my darling dog & she ran up to me. MORE tears !!!, Soon after, the new couple said she suddenly "flipped" & literally went mad. The vet could do nothing & they put her to sleep. Im choked as I write this, but its helping me to get over grieving, which, after 20yrs,Im still doing !!!!!. Im hauntedwith the thought...did she go nuts cos she still loved me ? I dont know. But the pain hasnt left me. I hope it does leave you ! It hurts ! I wish you well. ( this is for best wishes !)

Re: the all Dog thread!
I try not to think about it too much. It was this summer and well.. I can't dwell. I had a lovely time with her, but my time is up. that's all there is to it.
