Nice research project, Norc! What's the R squared on those fits? I don't see any of the original data points on the graphs so it's hard to judge variability of the lines. Would also be curious to see if it's a tight pattern if they truly look linear.

i looked at average post count on each of us' profile then added the current post count. it might not work, but hey, we'll see.

So no variability estimates. You should keep track of posts at the same time each day for the next 5 days and attempt to estimate a spread in crossing times. Your Math teacher would love you.

I enjoy your post count statistics, Norc. Although post rates do change. Orwell passed me briefly during one of my absences and now I've got something like 2500 posts on him because of all his absences.

i know.. but i am fairly regular but we'll see now when exams start and such :S

Miscellaneous observations:

• Worst month: April 2011 (946)
  
• Best month: January 2013 (5775)
  
• The decline in posts after February 2011 is partially (but not entirely) because we were no longer copying posts from the old forum
  
• No month has seen a year-over-year decrease in post count since I started recording
  
• Since November 2011, we have never fallen below an average of 60 posts per day
  
• Since March 2012, we have only once fallen below an average of 90 posts per day (barely)
  
• As of April 2013, we have had seven straight months with an average of over 100 posts per day

Yeah, we make more posts than a lot of older Tolkien forums with larger member bases that have slowed down immensely over the years.

Is it cos we are a varied,happy bunch that have lots of different things to talk about ? We Know how to let our hair down,(especially Halfy,its so far down he's lost his feet) & have fun, as well as being serious & OCCASIONALLY talk about Tolkien?

Well lets just say I suspect those other Tolkien forums rather view us like Hobbiton did Bilbo, a bit queer.
But I like that and am proud of it! You only have to go take a look around to see the creative output the atmos here engenders and the friedly relaxed attitude of it all- thats why I love it- even where theres disagreements, theres no venom, its not why we all come here. And what we do all come here for, whatever that may be, it produces something a little special and unique.
