Hope you had a great day though. What civil wonders of adulthood traditionaly are bestowed in the US for 16? In the UK you are old enough to leave school, go to work, pay taxes, join the army and have sex (although for some reason you still aren't considered old enough to watch other people having sex- you can do it but you aren't allowed to see how!) and in Scotland soonish at least, vote- although it'd be a pretty full birthday if you had to it all on the same day.

I don't know about your contries, but the "age-limit" at 16 is just to prevent 19 year olds pairing up with 13 year olds.
