Middle-earth March Madness
Someone on another forum posted this and I thought it looked like it could be fun. I don't know if our non-American members are familiar with March Madness, but it's a college basketball tournament and is probably best-known here for the bracket it uses. TORn decided hold a similar bracket tournament to determine Tolkien fan's favorite characters. The competition is currently in the preliminary round, finding the top 32 characters for the bracket. You can read more and vote at the link below.

Bilbo, Balin and Tom Bombadil. This is so easy.

Re: Middle-earth March Madness
Snagging my explanation from that other forum since I'm lazy.
Also, I think it's a bit unfair to give both Gandalf and Aragorn two bites at the apple by listing them twice.
Eldorion wrote:I voted for Faramir - my long-time favorite - Bilbo, and Smaug. Bilbo is probably the Hobbit I can relate to the most and I think Smaug is a magnificent villain. It was hard to narrow this down to three choices though, I wish there were more votes in the qualifying round.

It will get more interesting once they have the final 32 and create the bracket. There will be multiple match-ups in each round and we'll have to pick just one person from each match-up.
Re: Middle-earth March Madness
Round 1 finally began. Looks like they realized the pointlessness of having the same character listed multiple times, as both Aragorn and Gandalf have been condensed despite both their incarnations earning enough votes to be in the Top 32. Voting on this round is open until March 21 so there's plenty of time to consider your picks.

Re: Middle-earth March Madness
It's down to the final match-up: Sam vs. Aragorn. I've been pushing for Sam the whole time and he's in the lead right now, but it goes for about another two days (until April 4 at noon).

Re: Middle-earth March Madness
How was I banned? well I dont like snotty supercilious gits, that try to tell me what to think. thats why. he he! Most of them on that forum are harmless, but there is a hard core of 'alpha females' by that I mean long time posters who think they run the place, but they dont 'run' me and I kind of told em so. It is odd considering I am what Petty would consider a PJ apologist and middle roader to get banned from the epitome of PJ loving forums.

Re: Middle-earth March Madness
I remember it was all about waiting for the video blogs, I had the temerity to suggest that waiting for them was frustrating, and I got accused of having an uppity sense of entitlement. ME? I am uppity but I dont have a sense of entitlement, it was an innocent enough statement of mine. Anyhoo they all started yapping at me once the Head B**** had fired off the first salvo, I put my typing finger into first gear and fired back, with interest, like you do.

Re: Middle-earth March Madness
I thought you just got banned from the TORn forums. Did they block you from visiting the blog as well? If that's the case, it's even more ridiculously excessive.
I guess they just eat their own over at TORn. (I was surprised that I wasn't banned for PJ-criticizing myself, actually. )

Yeah, every time I check back his margin of victory has increased even further. Go Sam!
Re: Middle-earth March Madness
I think its the forum and this March thing too. the weird thing was I was in no way abusive nor did I swear or use foul language, I was slightly sarcastic and that was enough to get their goat. anyway its all part of the rich tapestry and whatnot.

Shoulda mooned them on the way out.
Anyone who is an appendix geek would have a pretty good idea who my favorite character might be, but it seems I'm in good company.

from that sitcom series about nerds, the Big Bang Theory, he never get the hang of sarcasm and irony. btw, I would love an argument between Sheldon and Sherlock. And dr House too, actually.

Re: Middle-earth March Madness
Sherlock would probably win though, he's more badass and Sheldon would be left speechless and hurt xD
