Assorted Junk Thread
There you go, Eldo (and Tin! ) Here's somewhere you can put anything that sprawls onto Threads where it's not welcome, anything "Off Topic" that doesn't demand it's own Thread. Here to help! (Apologies to Odo!)

OH,
From the book of Common sense, by Bella's Ear
Still needs a bit of work...
there was a young man called Orwell
who felt that junk should be excluded from the rest
so she set up the thread
because he couldn't stand the mess!

Re: Assorted Junk Thread
There was once a girl called Ally,
Who never lived out in the Mallee,
Some say she was Welsh,
And lived in house,
Some say it was a blob of sweet jelly.
Now it's also said of young Ally,
She spent all her time watching telly,
But she did love poor Syd,
He was part of her yid,
So let's be kind to her, shall we!
One day, this lovely girl Ally,
Thought "channelin" might be swelly,
So she dug deep in her yid,
(That courageous young kid!)
And soon knew wisdom, I tell ye!
But a bad thought occurred to poor Ally,
She doubted her gift from the Well, see,
Well, all I can say,
Ally don't talk that way,
Be brazen! Be brave! Just like Shelley!
"The Limerickened Song of Ally in Four Parts" by Percy Bysse Shelley, from his thought, aged 17.

Re: Assorted Junk Thread
I agree Wisey! That's as fine a piece of channeling Ally as ever I saw! Don't doubt yourself. (Mind, the mere mention of my name must improve any artistic work - or, at least, I think so! )

Re: Assorted Junk Thread
Thanks, but I only channel nursery rhymes and nonsense poems (Mr Lear and Mr Carroll are my favourites, in fact the first poem was inspired by the Queen of Hearts poem, I'm sure you realized that) so if there is any poetic reference or joke in there it's wasted on me!!!!
Lovely poem though Wisey. Improved by the mere mention of my glorious name...naturally.

"NaturALLY,
Ally is better
than Sally -
or Nellie..."
Lewis Carroll. "One day it wasn't all nonsense." Proposed poem.

Nothing would surprise me Chris ! The world is getting more & more computerized every day. After I watched "I Robot" I said to my son we'd have cars that would park themselves, Ive no doubt we'll have cars were you set a destination & you sit back & enjoy the ride.

West Memphis 3
Watched an interesting doco on this the other day. Half way through it up pops Peter Jackson sticking up for the 3 teenagers who
were found guilty of murdering three 8yr old boys. He even gave his own money to pay for the top lawyers.
Well done Peter, these guys in my eyes did not seem guilty. They spent 20yrs in jail, but had to plead guilty to get out.
Didn't understand that bit, maybe Eldo could help with that bit.

Haven't seen PJ's movie, but my understanding from having read about the case on my own is that when they were granted a retrial (20 years later), the judge said he'd sentence them to time served if they plead guilty to lesser charges. All three then filed guilty pleas but also publicly stated that they did so solely as a strategic move and they weren't actually admitting guilt, which apparently is something the Supreme Court has said is okay. That way they were able to avoid risking another jury trial which might have been resulted in a harsher sentence. It's all a little over my pay grade I'm afraid but I think that's how it went down.
