Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
The only reference I could find was the New York Times rather huffily reporting "We have no tonic wine, thank you very much...", then said Irish White Rose was the closest equivalent, but would likely soon be replaced by an incursion from Miami: the Jaeger Bomb which mixes the alcoholic content of Jaegermeister with the caffiene of Red Bull.
Given how much I detest Red Bull I think I'll wait for the first Buckie imports. Actually, perhaps I sense a business opportunity...?

I just assumed it was some kind of beer, this does sound very interesting! And it really does explain a lot of what's going on in this Buckie fueled forum. Goooooooo Buckie!!

I was rooting for the last guy in the videos. An inspiring show of the human spirit battling adversity....but like Tolkien we experience the pathos of the long defeat. Fight on! Fight on, Oh Knight!

Greetings to Forumshire from Turembar
Well, the template certainly makes it easy to start.
How did you first come across Tolkien?
Listening to my Mom, and older siblings discussing the books around the dinner table.
What do you think of the movies? We've got both purists and lovers of the films here.
In general I loved the films & watched them many times, though not in recent years. I also read the books a few times, and listened to them on CD many times more. But I do think the films have changed things in a way, that is they have altered some aspects of how I pictured the stories when only reading or listening to them. I wouldn't call it necessarily negative or positive, but do think some original interpretations are now lost to me.
How did you pick your username? Does it have any meaning?
It is the name I currently use on an online game, but I did pick it for reasons, which also apply here I guess. I am not so keen on explaining it yet, but if you are familiar with 'The Simarillion' you know it can't be good!
How did you find Forumshire? Search engine, referral, or something else entirely?
I found it by Internet Search. It was one of the first few listed. The words 'Free Spirits' is what caught my attention and made me interested in checking it out.

You may be the first one to use the template....you'll find this ain't exactly a follow-the-directions type of crowd.
Anyway, welcome to Forumshire - you're sure to find it entertaining.

Welcome Turembar
Great to have you here- things can seem a bit haphazard at first (its the free spirits thing you know) but just jump on in- feet first is usually the best way! You will soon get the hang of the place (beware of the Banks clan though- but you can trust anyone with Tyrant in their name )

Actually, you may have been the third. And the "clans" are and integral part of the entertainment. You'll see what I mean after looking about a bit. I seem to have put my foot in the middle of some wedding planning recently....

Hi Turembar,
waves (Eldo we need a waving hello smilie!)
Welcome, I second what Petty says- jump straight in, tis usually the best way around here.
(Although I must admit you are probably wise to steer clear of any particular clan - both the Bankes and the Tyrants have their moments.

Actually, in this forum it would make far more sense if the current members introduced themselves to the new inhabitants.

Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
I do usually jump straight into new situations. But on forums, I have found that I must be jumping too straight, or maybe too on, and end up going right thru the floor, basement, and another 40 feet of earth. But I certainly like following things where ever they might go, so should fit in well with tangental thoughts and meandering subjects. Thanks again all, for welcome. I look forward to trying to hop on some threads.
P.S. The 'Orwell' threw me a bit. I didn't at first associate it with the author. What came to my mind was a character's name from an old TV show. I had to look it up, but it turned out to be 'Orsen' from Mork and Mindy. The Avatar is actually a pic of a character from the 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes, called Attar.

Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
The confusion over Orwell is understandable. Orwell is a prominant (pompous!) member of our community- whether his name has an association to the author (one of my favourite authors) is a matter of occasional comment by Gandalf's Beard (our communities top socialist activist) on the BBST (Big Bad Serious Thread)

welcome Turembar, I like the name, it sounds like thunder rolling over mountains.
If you hear any references to eels dont worry, I used to have a flourishing cottage industry in eel wrangling but they were a bit hard to control and they gave me backache, so I set them free to roam and swirl in the pond in Bree.

An eel wrangler, huh. Do tell, do tell. Course I done a bit of wranglin myself. Yep, used to take part in them big kitty drives from Elk Hole Nevada to Washashone New Mexico. An let me tell you, kittys are about the most undrivable critters on God's green earth. Why we would start with over ten thousand head of Texas Tabbys and by time we finished the crossin of the San Padre mountains we'd have nary a one.
