Re: Future releases
Would you expect anything less of my library?
Just looked it up and Eldo was right, the sleeping with a drunk father was not Noahs daughters, although it does include it in the same section as a Biblical incest between the rest of the family thanks to there being no one else left to breed with and the Bible listing all their offspring. Which is why I confused the two incidents.
Its all till pretty dodgy on the moral/biological scale mind you.
But at least Noah was a drunk crabbit- good to know God appreciates us and I fully expect to be saved should he decide to go mental again and wipe everything out (although I will not be sleeping with anyone Im related too- you hear that God? Knock it off you old perv! )

The Old Testament had a preoccupation with Sisters and Daughters being bonked. Reminds me of Egyptian Pharoahs and them marrying their Sisters and Daughters. The early parts of the Old Testamnt are often very Egyptian-borrowed in my opinion.

It was, see my post above your own
I agree about the egyptian influence, but would argue its Egypyt as filtered through Babylon with a heavy dose of the older Summerian belief systems- particularly as the the Creation, Garden of Eden and of course the Flood all appear first in Summerian form.

Re: Future releases
Well, Abraham was from Mesopotamia (don't some people place him in Ur?) so from an external perspective it's not surprising that similarities to other Mesopotamian religions would exist. That said, while I don't know just how similar the creation myths are, flood myths are a feature of most early civilizations since they tended to spring up in river valleys.
Re: Future releases
The Bible says he was from Ur if I remember right.
The similarities between the Summerian myths and the biblical are more than coicnidental, besides the obvious link through Abraham.
The Eden version in Sumerran has all the same broad strokes, the main differences are there is a council of Gods instead of one, and the serpent God, Enki, is the good guy not the bad guy who lets the early humans know that the other Gods, led by Enhil (also called El), are just using them for slave labour (to till the earth and make the Gods wine) and want to keep them ignorant.
He gives them the knowledge they need to break free.
In the Summerian Flood story its also Enki who warns their Noah equivalent, Ziusudra, that Enhil is about to release the Flood. The ark is present as well and the instruction to take animals aboard. And Ziusudra basically becomes sort of immortal afterwards, but removed from worldly affairs afterwards to a place called Dilmun (there is an island of this name in the Persian Gulf with an odd property that made it a place of reverence, it has a fresh water stream, at the bottom of the salt water sea).
The Gods then reach a compromise brokered by Enki, man will be allowed to continue but much reduced b the introduction of disease.
In the epic of Gilgamesh he goes to find Ziusudra.
The early Jews of course only had one God, so have to give the roles of the other Gods to their one God (explaining his at times schizophrenic behavior in the OT towards humans, being a God of love and peace one minute and a tyrant of the worst sort the next. Its also interesting they made Enki the bad guy, using his symbol of the serpent which originally was a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, explaining its association in Genesis with the Tree of Knowledge)

Re: Future releases
I can't wait for this, and also The Tale of Princess Kaguya, which in all likelihood will be Isao Takahata's last film. Takahata is the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, along with Miyazaki, and despite being less known is equally talented. The anime industry will definitely have lost something without them; they've been involved since very near the beginning of modern anime. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Ghibli, too, since Miyazaki and Takahata have directed the vast majority of the studio's films and there is not a clear successor of equal caliber.
Also, I'm curious to know if they re-recorded the mouth-made sound effects for The Wind Rises dub track.

Re: Future releases
The music at the opening sounds like Ligeti's Lux Aeterna. Interesting choice for a trailer. And it has Bryan Cranston!

Mmm, why would the military drop their crack team, covered in the sort of equipment that tends to attract electricity, right through the heart of a lightening storm? Modern cinema is so stupid

It looks instantly better than the 1990s American Godzilla. It appears that retained the original design too.

Re: Future releases
Looking forward to Christopher Nolan's Interstellar even though I wasn't a big TDKR fan. Glad to see him continuing to make original sci-fi films.
NB This is very much a teaser trailer and as such says little about the content of the film.

Is that the Dark Tower series by Stephen King they're talking about?

Yes, it's a series of seven books and is considered King's magnum opus.

Re: Future releases
I began reading the first of the series sometime in spring last year, but had to lay it aside to focus on exams and whatnot, and I seem to have forgotten about it since. I don't know how that could've happened, because I really liked what I read of the first book. I'll pick it up again once I've finished reading GoT. Is that a film or a TV adaptation they're talking about making? (I guess I could click the link and read myself, but I don't want to stumble upon any spoilers ). And of course, I wouldn't mind seeing Aaron Paul in another show

Re: Future releases
The plan as far as I know is that they're going to make several movies and a tv series.
I'm only halfway through book four. It's one big long flashback. And I hate flashbacks.
I really liked books one and three. I hope they don't screw the pooch on this one. (But looking at previous King adaptations sets a depressing precedent.)
