Re: Tell me about this book then!
If you're reading in terms of order in style, read the fairy-stories in the Tales of the Perilous realm, with the Hobbit, then move on to the more darker stuff! Weirdly I started reading The Silmarillion before TH, I'd read the Hobbit and was like "hmm, this will be good!" Not surprisingly, I didn't finish it.

TH is best. Why anyone would read anything else (to begin with) is quite beyond me.

Re: Tell me about this book then!
Eldo, a girl??????????
Now where did that come from? Something I missed I presume...
Anyway, I got the Silmarillion in 5th grade because i thought it was another LOTR book. I skipped to the end of it (because that's what kids do) And finally saw the names Frodo and Aragorn and Gandalf, but I actually thought it was in another language!!! I didn't understand any of the names or was able to pronounce any of them, so I put the book down for a while. I read Beren and Luthien over the summer because I had recently heard about the story from watching Tolkien interviews and behind the scenes stuff, and I started there and read on.
What everyone is saying is absolutely right. If you're not in a Tolkien mood, than don't even bother reading it! because it'll just mess with your head!!!
(Thank goodness for the family trees and the glossary of names!)

I'm going to turn part detective (I managed to work out that Paul McCartney isn't in fact dead) and find the truth in this gripping story!

I guess I should be grateful that the picture I posted was lost in the Planet Tolkien disaster so the mystery can be preserved (or was it?).

Re: Tell me about this book then!
Hi there Kafria,
Here are a couples of links to a website that may help you progress further into reading the Silmarillion or other works by Tolkien.
Google Search Engine- Thain's Book-Guide to Tolkien's Middle-Earth
WWW.tuckborough.net (this will take you into Thain's Book).
This website is a handy encyclopaedia for everything Tolkien- places, peoples, creatures, things, events and so on. It has an alphbetical index as well as a subject index.
So if you chose the People tab this will take you to a page containing historical and chronological background on hobbits, elves, the race of men, dwarves and many others
The Place tab has references to villages/towns/cities, Islands, Lands.

Re: Tell me about this book then!
Thanks for that springstar, I particularly like the chronology, should help me keep things straight. I've stalled a bit in my reading, mainly due to finding two sci fi series i like and re-reading hitchhikers guide (which I got for my kindle, it is the edition with a forward by Russel Davies about why ebooks will never replace paperbacks... amused me somewhat that no one thought this might be a tad daft!)

Re: Tell me about this book then!
I really love my Kindle, it's just a pity that I've been out priced of most of the books I'd want to read. I've read all the Bronte, Austen and other classics that I'd want read, so I've resorted to illegally downloading the book in epub and converting it to Kindle!! With real books I can just get my parents to buy them- they can't say no to be reading a book!!
