Just found my film book of Bakshis lord of the rings from 1979 containing 130 illustrations (smells old)

Should be interesting! Is it a book solely about the film or is a copy of LOTR that's a Bakshi tie-in?

Just about the film

Over 130 pictures from the fantasy films presentation of The Lord of The Rings part one,
with a text based on the film script.

I think I might have had that as a youngster, or something similar Chris. One I had was like a novella and laid out pretty much like a comic book except with film stills. I think the text was under the pictures but stretching a buckie memory here to be sure. Look forward to seeing any pages from it that you manage to post.

Not quite the saam as the one I had, that looks almost square where as the one I had was book shaped. Keep the pics coming Chris.

Definently prefer Bakshi's Black Riders over Pj's. At least Bakshi's are disturbing and unsettling.

OMG Chris you have that book!! We used to borrow it from our local library to relive Bakshi movie moments. Ahhhh my youth...

Ack! Look at the hobbit feet in that last picture! These are trolls, not hobbits.

And what's Galadriel doing with blue skin?!

Petty can jump up and down all he wants about how the Bakshi script might be closer to Tolkien, but I can't get past the visuals. Given the choice between the PJ films and cracking the books I'll often go to the films because they are thrilling and fun to watch. But I can't even watch Bakshi for 5 minutes without monumental effort.

Not blue, more of an alabaster white, grey, cream.

If only we lived in a world where we got the PJ visuals but a Bakshi like Tolkien based script we couild all be happy- but no, it seems we have to choose between dodgy visuals and squished story telling, or great visuals and a script by an 8 year old.

Petty, all you need to do is get the PJ film, use all the good bits like you've done in your edits, and then do dubbing from the BBC radio dramatisation for all the bits that aren't good. Leave Bakshi by the wayside, the whole production is shocking even with a good coating of nostalgia.

That thought has crossed my mind Meiko. But I hate dubbed films (give me subtitles any day) and when sound and visuals are out of synch. I had thought to do a sort of slideshow version with occasioanal bursts of moving imagery.
Sadly however there is a lot of the radio plays for which there are no suitable visuals to take from PJ becuase he didnt follow the book most of the time and did not include lots of the characters or events.
