{{ Yeah its not bad at all. Sky made three live action mini serie.
Colour of Magic, which sadly has David Jason miscast as Rincewind (and wasn't keen on Sean Aston as Two Flower either, as I always saw Twoflower as a play on the Japanese tourist, not Amercian but Christopher Lee as Death is perfect) but otherwise captures the general Discworld vibe well, though its not Prathetts best work being the first and least developed novel.

And Hogfather, which David Jason is again in but this time much better cast as Albert.

And Going Postal, which is probably their best in my opinion.
But the BBC radio plays are the closest to the books in terms of adaptations, I'd recommend giving them a listen to. }}

So who would you cast as Rincewind?  I completely disagreed with your approval of the casting for Cohen the Barbarian, as the actor didn't have the manic energy I associate with the character - quite the opposite.  On the other hand I felt Rincewind was cast about right.

The Color of Magic is not a novel so much as a collection of 4 related stories.  And I thought the first one to be especially brilliant, not undeveloped at all.

{{ I like David Bradley in anything. And I liked Cohen in this, I thought he captured the spirit of the character perfectly. Rincewind is just way too old compared to the book. Hes 32 in Colour of Magic the book not 62! One of Rincewinds defining characteristics is his ability to run away at speed from any threat, which David Jason is a little long in the tooth to achieve. Twoflower has all the traits of a stereotypical Japanese tourist, particularly having a camera and the thick glasses, and the Counterweight Continent is pretty much China in the books in the same was Four Ecks is Australia.
' The cultures of the Counterweight Continent are a play upon those of our world's Far East, or at least Western perceptions of it. In a pun on the Orient, it is also known as the Aurient, from the Latatian (Latin) word 'aurum' (gold), meaning 'the place where gold comes from'. -discworld wiki

He was also portrayed that way on the books covers for years.

The Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic which it adapts is a collection of linked short stories really, but compared to the later books the Discworld is not as clearly defined, nor its denzins,stuff like the wizards of Unseen University are kind of weak for me compared to later when its better established and has a consistent cast of wizard characters with Ridcully at their head. For me the first two books are like looking at Discworld through a lens thats not quite in focus yet. This does give them a kind of rawness that has an appeal but they lack a lot of the substance and solidity that comes in the later books. }}

I must say again, though david bradley may have looked the part of Cohen, he was downright lethargic. Cohen doesn't even know that he's old...lumbago and gyp are just annoyances that crept up on him. The performance was 100% wrong.

{{ Dont agree on Cohen Halfy, in the books he is very much aware he's old, has lost all his teeth and can only have soup and appreciates above all else soft toilet paper. The joke is he is still throws himself into the fight anyway because its all he knows, and usually his back goes in the middle of it. The scene with rescuing the girl being sacrificed doesnt strike me as lethargic at all.}}

There was this too, but sadly it never seems to have got finished or progressed any further. Not Bradley though, but similar performance. }}

Dont know who this guy is but,... Rincewind ? I didnt like David Jason being Rincewind as he was too old for the character. And they made him too old. . Rincewind is a drop out, like some college student. I think Josh Kirby gives us a clue on how the characters are meant to look ( in the mind's eye of Sir Terry ) Sam Vimes has a touch of the "Clint's" about him, Rincewind is Shaggy from Scooby Doo, I think Sybil is Sybil ( but more 'rounded', motherly & knows more than you think ) from "Faulty Towers". I liked Charles Dance being the Patrician but, I imagined his hair to be jet black. It has to be jet black.

Lovecraft was a racist, I think that's part of the motivation for this approach. I think you'll see monsters soon enough.

{{ I think its possible to do Lovecraft without racism and still have it feel Lovecraftian. This feels like a period drama about racism 99% of the time, what Lovecraft there is feels mainly like an excuse for everything else rather than a reason for anything. }}
