Re: Just...................whatever
{{Watch this, then read the spoiler below to find out why its so amazing}}
- Spoiler:
The only real thing in that are the two actors and the car and the dressed floor of the studio set. Everything else you see is rendered in unreal engine (the game engine Im doing the Forumshire stuff in). But the amazing bit is its done in camera- in otherwords instead of actors performing before a big green screen and all the effects put in later they perform on a stage with a massive 180 or 360 LED screen around them onto which the background is projected, combined with interactive lighting tied to what the background is so the actors are lit the same way, plus when you move the camera the background moves correctly as it would in reality and of course can be fully animated and everything else and the result is damn near seamless. Plus the actor can see exactly what they are reacting to.
It was already used in its earlier form for the Mandolorian.

I wonder if our boy will get his mitts on this tech for a future production.

Those NYC clips are long enough that they could start in BW and fade to color. I noticed some faces are left BW.
i was so busy looking at the people that at first I didn't realize that though it's obviously New York, the only part I recognized was the Brooklyn Bridge!

It's the skin colors on that cross-hatched one that throws me for a loop: those lines aren't skin colored!

I have a feeling the colours on the 1900s film have bee hand coloured, as how could you get that womans' red lips with a grid? anyway no matter how they did it, I like it. They were so elegant and well dressed.

I never liked flapper styles, and the color doesn't help. But some dancing would help.

Re: Just...................whatever
The Flapper style is not flattering to most women with curves. You have to have a boyish straight figure and be tall to get away with it, and the bucket cloche hats aren't very nice either. Bustles are much nicer.

Re: Just...................whatever
{{ I think its boyish style was very much the point, fashion as social/political statement first and foremost rather than flattery of the wearer. It was after all illegal for a woman to wear trousers pre-WW1. Bloomers were the sneaky first attempt being not quite a skirt and not quite trousers, but even they were considered daring and challenging to sociatal norms. It wasnt really till the post war years it changed, as so many women had to wear trousers or boiler suits to work in the factories for the war effort. But even post war it was still some time before women wearing clothes that were deemed 'manly' in anyway was acceptable. So to even wear the flapper look, which most commonly had the straight non following the curves profile was I think a political statement in itself by women of the time.}}

oh definitely. When you look at the enormous change between what women wore in the 1900s to the 20s it was quite shocking.

So that's where the style came from? Quite interesting, never thought about it. Makes sense, I can think of no other explanation for such an ugly style shift.

Re: Just...................whatever
{{ Fashion is often more about politics than looks. Punk fashion of the late 70's is a good example, it was deliberetly non-conformist as a statement on society of the time, it was anti-consumerism often being made from multiple patches of material held together by safety pins, it stuck two fingers up at the hippy movement by favouring non-natural materials or where it was natural making it black leather coverdin metal studs and for women it often exposed or accenuated sexually related parts of their bodies to delibretly shock and offend.
And its still going on now- look at Muslim countries where the greatest fear on the planet as far as I can tell is an independent, educated free woman. How do they prevent such a thing as a basic starting point? Take away a womans right to dress herself and force her into a conformist head to toe black bag of fabric. Then tell her God made them do it.
Fashion can be very important, either in stifiling rights or in helping fight for them. Flappers were striking a blow for womens rights just by dressing to look boyish. }}

They also for the first time in history cut their long hair short into bobs and did away with corsets and long inconvenient skirts. They also for the first time in history got tanned and wore makeup that was obvious. Before women always wore makeup but it was meant to be invisible, apart from a short time in the 18th century when massive wigs, powdered hair, patches, rouge, and white lead faces were fashionable. The porcelain doll look, and that was just the men!

hey Halfy if 'someone' was to be working at the Met Museum where would be the best place to live nearby? Its in the Park so I imagine its super expensive immediate neighbourhood? are there cheaper but nice and relatively safe places in the vicinity?

Re: Just...................whatever
Living nearby means you are filthy rich, probably going back a few generations. But just a half hour walk north you'll find yourself in a vibrant ethnic neighborhood with reasonable rent (relatively speaking). You might even find a rent controlled apartment and then you are groovy.
You can also live even further north and rely on public transportation, which never stops running. For about $5/day you can supply yourself with a monthly pass with unlimited rides. Or $200/year for the bike share program, also unlimited. Since I'm walking distance from work I don't do unlimited transport passes but I do have the bikeshare - which I don't use nearly enough to save money vs subway but strongly believe in it so support it anyway.
"safe" and "nice" are quite relative. If you aren't stupid about walking on abandoned streets late at night, anywhere on manhattan is safe enough. And with neighborhoods gentrifying and transport a breeze, living on Manhattan is a dream so long as you can cover the rent.
What, do you 'know' a special 'someone'?

Re: Just...................whatever
Now you're getting me riled up. Here's my recommendation: live up in Inwood (northern Manhattan) near my favorite park but cheap rent. Fort Tryon park is a hill with an Medieval Art museum on top (the Cloisters - part of the Met) that up until covid had a medieval festival every september. Yes, joisting on the island of Manhattan. Hop on the A train for 15 minute ride down to the northern corner of the park (a short walk to the Cathedral of St John the Divine, the largest gothic style cathedral in the world, (though eucunemical from the start circa 1900) then transfer to the C/B train for a quick ride to the Science museum right across from the park. Walk across the park (perhaps diverting south for coffee at the boat house) to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. That's your commute each day.
