Sorry news Malick. Sometimes its hard to believe or take in. I might sound spiteful but, its the younger ones that seem especially sad. And hospital is a lonely place when your feeling at your worst. No visitors allowed to hold your hand, no phone calls to find out how you are. Bad times

Yeah my dad hasn't been able to see his mom, who he moved back to MN to take care of, for a while now. I mean he can visit with her a bit through the rear garden window of her room, but they can't talk that way and it's not like a normal visit. She must be lonely.

Not sure how true it is, but apparently the Russians are planning a mass vaccination programme in October.

Not entirely sure how they can be confident that it will work, unless the plan is to use that to stop the spread and hopefully kill off the virus for the time in which the vaccine is effective (assuming it turns out to not be long term).

Fingers crossed it does work and we don't end up with a generation of people with other problems triggered by an untested (to normal standards) vaccine.

'The number of coronavirus cases linked to an outbreak in Aberdeen has increased to 79 - with more expected in the coming days.
Lockdown restrictions were imposed in the city on Wednesday after the number of cases in the cluster rose to 54.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said an additional 25 cases had been confirmed since then.
A further 30 cases are being investigated to see if they are linked, while 233 contacts have been traced.

A stark reminder that even if you get the numbers down very low, this damn thing can surge back frighteningly quickly. Keep safe everyone, stick to the rules, 2metres distanicng, masks in public, avoid mass gatherings, wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.

Oh and heres Jane Godleys Sturgeon impression on her annnouncing the lockdown, and in fact its very close to what Sturgeon actually said, but with less swearing! ('You've been telt!' incidentally is a very common phrase on the west coast of Scotland, particualry parents to their children when they do somehtiing stupid that they should already know about. With telt just being scots for told in case that wasnt obvious from context.}}

Id like to think that Putin felt confident enough about any vaccine. Im sure he'd like to see 'his' Russia as medical hero's & world leader on this. A slap on the face of Trump I suspect too, not that Putin has given a warm & happy smile ? Of course he'd make sure it was a 'no opt out', compulsory set up & any who disobey will suddenly vanish & their families told said opposer succumbed to Covid 19. Which is starting to look jolly handy.... for some.

I think we all know this is a part of the propaganda war, but he has to follow through or he will be laughed at by Trump, he deffo wont want that. So part of me thinks it will work although they have jumped phase 3, they will be doing it at the same time as the actual vaccinations. I feel sorry for the military in Russia and China, they were obviously forced to have it done.

One thing the virus has done for us, is force more places to create outdoor dining.  At this time of year it works great.  I think the latin/caribbean restaurants do the best job - here's a couple in my neighborhood.




Right around the corner from me the row of eateries has transformed the whole feeling of the street:



And further afield (which in NYC means just a few blocks) you just keep running into places.




Once you get out in the country they can get more opulent:  



If even half of this sticks around after things get back to normal I shall be very happy.

Yeah, the last one was up even before the virus and was used for weddings, but now it's the default where before they wouldn't put you out there.
