Don't know anything about the books, but I think it's interesting Lin Manual Miranda is being pulled into a purely dramatic role, with no music or dancing to be seen.

I read the books, a long time ago. I liked them well enough, but take umbrage with some of Pullman's philosophical views as expressed in the themes of that series.
