Re: Star Wars [3]
{{ I suspect that many of my generation- who saw the film on its original release aged about 7/8 it was their first introduction to bigscreen scifi on that scale. I know I certainly had not seen 2001 at that age.
Another thing often forgotten is back then you either got to go back the cinema that week to see it again or it was gone. No home vhs on mass yet, no way to see it again other than hope it would eventually, a few years later, maybe turn up on tv, and then its not the same agaiin without the bigscreen. }}

Re: Star Wars [3]
The old feeling called to me and I'm rewatching it right now. I thought I'd just do the first 5-10 minutes, but it kept pulling me along.
Could use some rewriting: how many times can 3 different actors say "make the jump to light speed" in the space of 30 seconds?
It's too bad Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing never shared a scene - with all the young cast it's left to Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru to have even a scrap of the gravitas those two have.

This may actually work. Looks like they're throwing a butt-ton of money at it.

Re: Star Wars [3]
My only concern is they have a great actor like Pedro Pascal and it seems like they'll never show his face. They definitely have the right guy, don't waste the opportunity!

Only reason I have for getting that is The Mandalorian. I assume it will eventually trickle down to other services.

Re: Star Wars [3]
Well well, la di da, Jeffries pull up the car and polish my dress shoes! I say where the devil is my snuff.
I saw the first episode of the Mandalorian, and I really don't think I can get behind a show where the main character wears a helmet all the time. The "comedy" character at the beginning reminded me too much of a poor Doctor Who episode, so that was off-putting. I did enjoy seeing Herzog as aSpace-NaziImperialist-in-hiding. But the rest? Ehhh, it could work, but the lack of connection I feel with the faceless protagonist makes it hard to engage with the kooky characters and situations that he encounters. It's a light-hearted show, perhaps too light-hearted for me. The good guys never get hit, the bad guys die in droves. The McGuffin is precious fan-service.... well no spoilers. (I don't mean precious in a good way either.)
I'm not the target audience. I don't care about the setting and haven't seen the original trilogy in well over a decade.

Re: Star Wars [3]
How does it rate in light-heartedness compared to the original Star Wars (episode 4 )
I was hoping they'd take him out of the helmet at times. See my earlier complaint. If they never do, it's a problem. If they don't do it by at least the second episode, it's a problem.

Re: Star Wars [3]
I don't mind it. Harmless fun. Did annoy me at one point he was surrounded by men with guns and one of the men came up behind him and punched him in the back. You got a bloody gun. Shoot him don't punch him. Of course after the punch, The Mandalorian shot him.
Like i said in another post, it only goes for about half an hour.

Yeah, I think Abrams is a problem. He turns established motifs into Lego tropes, sticks them together and calls it a movie.

Re: Star Wars [3]
Must. Avoid. Spoilers!!
I'm trying to hold off on seeing it until the 28th so I can see it with my girlfriend (I think that's the term for it). I did see the Rotten Tomatoes score today. That was rather a surprise. Of course, blockbuster RT scores only go down as more reviews are added...
