{{{ Nod Thats how I saw it too.

Had to put this up- I'll put in spoilers as its a shot of filming from Jodie's first ep, but there is nothing spoilery in it, just her soon after regen, but just in case someone doesnt want to see anything at all- but the reason I am putting it up is the wonderfully bad Daily Mail article its from, so bad I will include the funniest bits of them exposing how little they actually know about Who whilst pretending to be providing stunning new information on it.

{{{ Daily Mirror are reporting that Murray Gold will definitely be leaving the show and the xmas episode will be his final Who score. Music is such a big part of any TV drama and Golds music, love him or not, has been a big part of NuWho's identity since it began.
Will be interesting to see what sort of style of music we will get- and presumably we will get a new composition for the them tune too.

{{In honour of Murray Gold's stint on NuWho here are three of my personal favourite tracks of his from the series, and my two favourite Doctor themes of his. So pour yourself a glass of something, pop on the headphones and enjoy.

The first two are both form series three-

This is Gallifrey- which was the first piece of Golds music to really, really grab my attention- I had liked the orchestral stuff he had done already with the Dalek themes but this for me was the piece that really stood out as capturing perfectly the right feel for Gallifrey as a lost legendary home world of the Doctor.

Also from series three- All the Strange Creatures- I just find this one a lot of fun for some reason.

And all the way to series 9 for Breaking the Wall, which sadly there is still not an official release of, this is best I can do for now. A beautiful, weighty piece that perfectly matches the visual narrative it tells-

In terms of Doctors themes, first up 11's theme- captures 11 as written, the old, wise seasoned time traveller in the young mans body- full of mystery, adventurer and action. It encapsulates Matt Smith's Doctor perfectly.

And finally 12's theme which again just perfectly encapsulates the character and journey of 12 (again no official release yet)-

So what are your favourite Murray Gold Who pieces? Which is your favourite Doctor or Companion theme? }}}

All New Who - Page 34 Empty Re: All New Who

Post by malickfan Tue Nov 28, 2017 8:24 pm

I'm not surprised Murray is probably leaving, he's been in the job for 12 years and created some absolutely stunning music, but there's only so much one man can offer, Series 11 seems like it will be a massive reboot of the series and a fresh composer could be a very exciting, positive move for the series i.m.o.

Every Doctor has a new theme and personality but Murray will always retain his own methods and approaches a composer, he's probably content to step aside now before he gets burned out or stale.

Favorite pieces...well, I haven't watched any of the episodes in ages so don't recall the music all that well, but the soundtrack to Heaven Sent was sublime (as was everything else about that episode) and the 12th Doctor theme remains my favourite of the New Who releases.

My favourite Doctor theme (probably) is actually not a Murray piece, but 'There's a Man I Know' Jamie Roberson's theme for the 8th Doctor, which crops up in some of the more recent audios (Dark Eyes and The Light At The End most notably):

So, does this make the Xmas special the 12th Dr regeneration story, or an epilogue? He was already dying from his injuries at the end of Series 10 which wrapped up his character arc completely, as intriguing as it will be to see the interplay between the 1st and 12th Doctors it does seem a bit odd that they've taken him from during The Tenth Planet as well, interesting parallels between two Doctors fighting off regeneration but it might undermine Hartnell's work in the original story and limit Capaldi's screentime (also wondering if Moffat will retcon or remount some of the scenes from the 10th Planet...was it ever actually confirmed exactly what the 1st Doctor died from?) and as fine an actor as David Bradley is, he doesn't sound all that similar to Hartnell (one of the reasons I'm a bit baffled by the Big Finish 1st Doctor audios coming up-hiring look alikes for audio drama aimed at nostalgic fans?)

{{I dont think it will undermine the original- one thing Moffat has been good at is fitting stuff around existing stuff without overwriting it. Been a long time since I saw Tenth Planet (well the reconstruction) but if memory serves the Doctor disappears for about an episode prior to returning for his regen (due in reality to Hartnell's health) and its into this gap Moffat is putting this story- given from the trailer it seems to involve
Spoiler:
I am inclined to think this entire episode, from the 1st Doctor perspective will take place between when he see him walking back to the TARDIS and when he enters his TARDIS and regens in the original episode. But that is a guess. There is no specific reason given for the 1st Doctor to regen in the original- it just happens with him saying "wearing a bit thin"  so its always just been assumed it was simply old age- I suspect we will find thats not entirely the case!}}}

{{ Who news!

Good news on the series 9 soundtrack finally! Its actually going to be released- no official date but 'shortly' and it will be followed soon after by the series 10 one. cheers

Moffat on the subject of why he never cast a female Doctor-

"We could have replaced Matt Smith with a woman, given that his Doctor was more sexless and less of a lad, but then I got obsessed with seeing Peter in the Tardis,” he said.
Admitting he had no regrets over that decision, he did say he was worried about the show’s “Daily Mail-reading viewers” complaining that it wouldn’t be the same person, before adding: “This isn’t a show exclusively for progressive liberals; this is also for people who voted Brexit. That’s not me politically at all - but we have to keep everyone on board.”
Chibnall... is credited with the decision to break tradition and cast a female Doctor - one that Moffat has fully endorsed.
“All credit to him. It’s going to work, I know it is. More and more of the audience were asking for it. It’s is absolutely the right choice. Now is the time.”

A xmas spoiler potentially, if true as I didn't hear it directly myself, but apparently a radio trailer for the xmas episode was leaked which contained the 12th Doctor saying
