They were so good back in the day ! Life of Brian is pure genius I looked forward to "Monty Python" every dam week I loved how they touched on sore points that made others flinch on ! Watching them gave me a smidgeon of inner strength to be "me" growing up, I really think that. I was different from the crowd & didn't fit in, it didn't bother me as I thought MY world was great, it bothered other people tho & guess who got bullied. That was centuries ago, Hasn't put me off being me tho

Helen Mirren, as Dr Who,

{{Big fan of hers- but, um, she is getting on a bit, she is 71- not sure she would be quite up to Who's demanding schedule (Capaldi is a sprightly 58 by comparison) }}

{{I absolutely love this, partly for the sheer audacity of it. Whilst Heaven Sent is Capaldi's tour de force of a 1 one man show and rightly praised for it, I dont think any other NuWho Doctor could have pulled off this either.

The opening to Before the Flood, part 2 of a 2 part story.
Part 1 ending on an excellent cliffhanger- then part 2 opened with this which is completely disconnected in time and place to, anything- a completely and utterly fourth-wall breaking, no, shattering, monologue to the audience by12.
1 and 4 did some wall breaking, with 1 wishing the audience a merry xmas at the end of one episode right to camera, and 4 used to make a lot of small asides to the audience, such as his famous turn to camera to inform the audience that "even the sonic screwdriver wont get me out of this one" - but this is that taken to the nth degree. Enjoy the Bootstrap Paradox! }}}

don't like 4th wall breaking, its cheesy. There is only one example in the whole of cinema history where I actually loved it, where the 4th wall was broken to heart breaking effect, and which I loved, is in Orlando, done without a word been spoken. But it just worked.

Done in stage performance all the time.

{{I'm not in general a fan of it either Figg in tv and film, I find the 1st Doctors cheesy and some, but not all of the 4th Doctor, now- but as a kid I loved it every time when 4 did it. It was almost like a special little secret thing he did directly in communication with just you through the magic of television- rather than my more cynical adult view that 'takes me out the moment'.
But even as an adult I enjoyed both the Bootstrap wall breaker and my especial favourite in Heaven Sent when he just gives the camera a sideways glance as he passes it and says "after all I'm nothing without an audience"- that one in especial I think I would have loved as a kid as its reminiscent of the best of 4's more subtle wall breaking moments}}

In theatre it doesn't feel cheesy. they do it in panto and everyone loves it specially kids.

{{Was rewatchng the Flood two-parter- the bit where the Doctor pulls out the cards in an attempt to be a bit more humane and decided to freeze frame to actually read what they say. }}



"I completely understand why it was difficult not to get captured" {{Self-evident reference to how often people get captured and need rescued by the Doctor}}

"It was my fault, I should have known you didn't live in Aberdeen" {{A reference to when Sarah Jane left the 4th Doctor and he dropped her off at her home in Croydon, only he got it wrong and actually left her in Aberdeen. }}

"I didn't mean to imply that I don't care"

"No one is going to get eaten/vaporized/exterminated/upgraded/possessed/mortally wounded or turned into jelly, we'll all get out of this unharmed."

"I'm very sorry for your loss. I'll do all I can to solve the death of your friend/family member/pet."

{{ Though my personal favourite line in that scene is the Doctor trying to get a grip on his own excitement- "Calm Doctor. Calm. You were like this when you met Shirley Bassey." }}

I like the hand-brake.

{{Another excellent scene, anytime the Doctor gets to chat with arch-enemy Davros is a good scene, but Julian Bleach is superb under all that make-up and at making you feel sympathy for the conniving old bastard! }}}
