Oh I say chaps ! Ive just fathomed out how to use "Paint" on my pc AND Ive enlarged some downloaded pics & printed them orrrrrf I am such a happy bunny. All by my lonesome May not be epic for you guys but, as I am a fully paid up member of the doofus society, its quite a feather in my cap for little 'ole me Its the jargon I don't get, completely baffling !

The Paint app has become useful again. When it first came out it was the greatest thing ever, then as it became subsumed into Word and Powerpoint the stand-alone app was mutated into something pretty useless. It finally came around to being useful again.

My biggest bone to pick with Apple (beyond dropping the ball on stability of the recent operating systems) is that it never came up with a respectable answer to Paint.

Yes, in fact GIMP is designed for unix systems, which is what Mac is. Mac has access to the entire unix/linux set of freeware, which is huge. That was a main driver in my going the apple route. GIMP is part of the GNU project, which has freeware for many things. Open office came out of the linux community.

Gimp/photoshop does not have the intuitive simplicity of paint, and as far as I know not the pallete of shapes and lines. No comparison. If you just want to sit down and draw some sketches, photoshop/gimp is NOT the way to go.

tried to look at my gimp, realized that it was boondoggled when I moved to my new computer a year or so ago (shows how often I use gimp). I'll have to re-install it.

Since I can't check myself, does gimp/photoshop have standard shapes like rectangles and ovals you can draw and rotate? I know you can sketch lines of different colors, but the shapes save a lot of time.

Just reloaded gimp. No, it really doesn't give you as many useful options as something like paint or the draw modules in microsoft office. You want arrows, triangles, arcs, etc or you're just doing too much work.
