I love all the different Scrooge films, from Alastair Sim to my personal fave.....The Grinch with Jim Carrey Very Happy

Aah Muppets Christmas Carol, together with Die Hard my go to Christmas Movie Double bill, the former gets me in the Christmas spirit by reminding me of my childhood and the warmth and fun of the festive period, the latter more accurately matches my feelings towards Christmas these days-loud, hectic and a whole lot of trouble with more drinking involved.

Muppet's Christmas Carol is probably my second favorite version of the story, but you can't even get the full version of that anymore. I'm pretty sure they only sell the edited version that completely removes Scrooges relationship with Belle. A complete travesty.

...Why the hell would they do that? I haven't seen the Muppet version, but Scrooge's failed relationship is pretty darn central to the character.

To me the Jim Carrey Grinch is so far from the Dr Seuss classic that I simply can't watch it. The animated special made by Chuck Jones is untouchable, and except for the famous smile (which for some reason Dr Seuss did NOT like) is pure Dr Seuss. He even approved the composer and wrote the lyrics for all the songs.

"When Love Is Gone" was a song performed by the character Belle (voiced by Meredith Braun) as she laments that Scrooge's love for money has replaced his love for her. The song itself was cut from the original 1992 theatrical edition by Jeffrey Katzenberg of Walt Disney Studios, who believed that the following scene would not appeal to young children. Instead, the song was played during the end credits scene.[27] Henson objected to this decision. The concluding song, "The Love We Found", is a direct counterpoint to it.[11]

Director Brian Henson commented: "When Love Is Gone" was not in the theatrical release, and is presently missing from the movie, which is a real shame. It was on the VHS release."[28]

The song "When Love Is Gone" is included in The Muppet Christmas Carol Anniversary Edition DVD, but on the full-screen version only. This is the only way to view the whole film on DVD with the scene intact.

Michael Caine is a fantastic Scrooge, but not a great singer.

I had seen that deleted scene before, but I've only ever watched the edited version of the film so never missed it, a bit too cheesy and trite for my liking anyway.

The emotion you can see in his face at the end of the song when he is with young Belle is essential in showing Scrooge's regret and heartbreak. The song should be in the film.

{{Agreed- the Patrick Stewart version is pretty good too but not in the same league as Simms in my view- and I always find the Muppet one surprisingly watchable Embarassed

and on the subject of guilty pleasures for a modern update I rather enjoy Scrooged too with Bill Murray }}

I finally got around to seeing Thor: Ragnarok tonight. I thought it was pretty good but the tonal shifts were a bit too much for me. I've talked with other people who didn't find that to be an issue though. Shrugging

I give it credit for making me actually care about Thor, and I'm kinda curious to see Taika Waititi's other work where he isn't trying to balance comedy and characterization with giant fight scenes, but they'll probably end up going on the very long list of films that I think might be fun to check out one day. Laughing

yep I guess so, I watch it in dubbed Italian, they even have Brian Ferry crooning a decadent Weimar republic song thingie, total amazeballs! rarely seen a better scenography, every detail is perfect. 1920s Berlin as it probably really was, full of intrigue and dirty hair. The main actress is fantastic, really expressive, she reminds me of a 1920s style Norc. Very Happy

yep it doesn't sound very 20s it sounds like a modern fusion, although it doesn't feel out of place when you watch it.

Its the one horror film Ive not seen. I have to say I was impressed by the poor guy dressed up as the creature & how he swam...

I saw it as a young teenager and the creep factor was amazing. There's a reason it's regarded as a classic.

there were a few Fffttt moments in that film Smile

I thought it was great Smile

I looked into it & found out there were 2 men playing the creature. Ben Chapman played it on land & Ricou Browning played it under water.

I watched A Ghost Story based on Mike's recommendation in RLM's 2017 catch-up video.
