I am perhaps inordinately amused that my tenure here seems to have created a situation where the idea of an Admin with enough self-respect to expect people to ask nicely for favors is considered an arcane mystery.

You do it the Forumshire way; you are either there when the idea is born, see it in action, or stumble upon it in an old thread purely by accident.
