Concerning Admins

I promised you a speech. This might be one.

I bet you’re wondering if things will change, with me being a Dark Planeterian and all. I don’t see any reason why it should. Eldorion and I seem to agree on most aspects of forum leadership. Yes, Planet Tolkien – aka the Dark Planet – does have more rules. I'll save you six or seven pages of reminiscing and instead say that the rules are there for a reason. I know the philosophy, I know the history, I know the reasons and I know the team behind it. I also know the philosophy, the history and the team behind this place. And most important of all: I know the difference. I do take on this responsibility with only the best intentions, I'm mostly doing this to see if I've grown up yet.

I'm from Norway, if anyone was wondering about that. I don't say a lot about my personal life online, but I work as a naval (not navel) engineer, I have a lovely boyfriend and  I'm a mother of a girl and a boy, currently aged 8 and 6. I've been a mod over at DP (PT) for more than 10 years.

Since I have no idea what you might want to know or ask, perhaps a Q&A session is in order?
(Can't see any reason why that might backfire spectacularly.)

I'll reply exactly when and how I want to.

All the questions I need to ask, all perfectly sensible too-


1) Will the press remain free if not necessarily accurate? (and ideally unchallenged in the Forumshire Courts!)

2) Will buckie remain Forumshires no1 drink?

3) Can I use the navel spelling of naval in a Forumshire Tale as it fits in far better

We love you Amarië and I have complete faith in you to do a great job taking care of this place. You've been a valued member here for nearly five years and a trusted moderator for almost as long. I understand if you're feeling some level of uncertainty, but I want you to know that I don't. I'm excited to see where things go, and there's no one I'd rather have as Admin as we navigate these uncharted post-Hobbit movie waters. No one can deny that you have paid your dues with all of your forum experience. That you are also a personal friend and just an all around good person is the icing on the cake.

My only question at the moment is whether there is any truth to the rumors that you intend to declare yourself a Dark Mistress, or Lady, or Empress, or some other frightening and/or impressive title instead of or in addition to Ambassador.

Oh, and since Petty posted in here, I also have to ask when that new NotP is going to arrive?

Naval Engineer? Which type, perzactly?

You tend not to weigh in on technical matters like most engineers would. All this time you had us thinking you were a librarian. Can't judge the admin by the avatar...

1) It should be free, and delivered to my door.

2) Of course, cause we love our Queen.

Glad you asked that question. I'd rather fight a horse-sized duck, because who would fight 100 duck-sized horses? They'd be all tiny and cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!!!

I haven't decided yet. I imagine I will be the Dark Mistress no matter what name I choose for myself.

One of the perks to being Admin -- in addition to the stress and the headaches and the people complaining to you -- is that you get to set the tone for discussions and perceptions in a lot of ways. But Orwell can be awfully incorrigible...

I'm the kind that deals with doors and windows, the accommodation area and the bridge arrangement and making sure everything is according to the rules.

Now, I read all that blah blah blah blah admin stuff you wrote, Amarie, and if I had been paying more attention I might have picked up on what your administrative philosophies will be, but as I didn't I didn't, but you'll be pleased to know that a snippet of my attention chanced upon 'navel engineer' - and I'm pleased to note that that's what nearly everyone Else noted too. Frankly, I can't see how it Won't get into a Forumshire Tale. People would here would be sooooo disappointed!

Good luck with it, Dark Mistress. Personally, I like my Mistresses dark - though, of course, like I did with Eldo, I will be working assiduously (that's A.S.S.I.D.U.O.U.S.L.Y) to overthrow you. I expect you'll expect nothing less!


On a general point,  all the responses to your blah-blah-blahing I see were in keeping with true Forumshiran tradition.  

Also, I don't advise young women to live in sin.

According to our Unwritten Rule 4.B.22.1 Nora, Forumshirans choose them themselves and send a request to the admin. That, I trust, won't change, Dark Mistress???

Yes, Eldo has mentioned that compost pile. Good to see it's still being used.
