Re: Television programmes [2]
{{{Really looking forward to this and where they go with it. Its Lynch and Frost back doing it which is great. Especially having Lynch back who is essential in my view.
I am a huge fan of the Twin Peaks film, Fire Walk With Me he wrote and directed- which is itself a complete subversion and sometimes parody of the tv show he made with Frost.
But what will be interesting here is where the focus will be- in the tv series Lynch saw Laura's murder and the who did it as a mystery never to be solved, it was the tree from which all the other branching mysteries could be attached and uncovered.
He was absent from series 2 after the studio insisted they reveal who killed Laura- causing Lynch to say they had killed the golden goose. And of course the viewers and ratings fell away after it was revealed. And Lynch did not return to the show until the end of the final series.
When Lynch made the film version he got round the problem by setting it during the last 7 days of Laura life thus bringing the focus back to the central mystery and to the tragic juxtaposition of a beautiful, popular, on the outside happy teenage girl who is really falling into a pool of utter darkness and submission to darkness. Its an unremittingly painful uncomfortable viewing experience.
The tv series ended with Agent Cooper possessed by evil serial killing Lodge spirit Bob and was a pretty bleak ending so be interesting to see where it goes- presumably this will be quite a different Agent Cooper. }}

Re: Television programmes [2]
In hindsight that article may have a point....
I watched a few episodes of "Friends" over the years it was on, but I don't remember ever laughing. I do remember wondering if the name "Friends" was intended to be ironic.
It was more like observing an alien civilization, though it clearly resonated with a lot of people.

Re: Television programmes [2]
Oh it was quite funny, but laser focussed on its demographic. If you were outside the demographic there would be no resonance and no laughs.

That would be me. I'm trying to remember the last time somebody targeted my demographic. Maybe "The Andy Griffith Show"?

Good call! There's a depth of humor there that's lost on those who've never shoveled manure or smelled a pig stye!
I'd actually been thinking about TV sitcoms when I said that, but broadening the field I think Twin Peaks would have to pass the test as well (at least the original.) There's a lot of character humor in TP that might be overlooked in NY or LA.

Re: Television programmes [2]
My mom showed me Waking Ned Devine when I was like 10 and I was definitely outside of its target demographic then.
Re: Television programmes [2]
I saw Waking Ned Devine with a film and book discussion club-thing. I've seen it a few times since then with others, and there's definitely some humour that I find hilarious that others haven't appreciated. The sudden and unexpected end for Lizzy Quinn the snitch comes to mind.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

Re: Television programmes [2]
I've just watched a few minutes of the Worsely video and see a pleasant addiction coming.
the Henry VIII vid may be worth a view, though I do have to say I'm getting more than a little tired of the "Now, a team of experts..." approach that is American Public Television's answer to reality television. I may be okay with the format so long as I never have to hear that stupid phrase again.

Thinking back on that, I remember being bothered by the idea that a phone booth would be out in the middle of nowhere, especially on a cliff over the ocean. Just doesn't make sense. Or to phone booths like that really exist out on the isles?

Sometimes this happens for us. We are living on chalk here & its not one of the most stable substances.....
Where the red circled house is in the old foto, is, where it is now in the colour foto. I find it scary that erosion can happen so quickly.

Uhuh ! As far as I'm aware our Council is the only one to help, they cannot sell their homes as no one who's mad enough would buy, obviously. Insurers wont touch them either. Pretty grim if your the last home owner.
