We had a similar thread on the old forum-but I can't remember what it was called!
Anyway its a place to put anything that strikes you as interesting, any subject at all.

Heres some word facts from Dictionary Corner in todays Countdown. English words whose roots are in older languages names for body parts.

First up some latin. Manus, meaning hands. Which has given us loads of words such as manual, manage and mandate.

Again from latin, capitalus which means 'the main thing or head of' from which we get of course capital and caput amongst others.

Still on heads its off to ancient China for a word which meant 'banging two heads together (when bowing) kowtow.

And back to latin for supercillum, which means eyebrows and from which we get our word supercillious from because of the way such people raise their eyebrows when being supercillious!

And "disrespectulize"?

Ooh easy!
'dis' from urban street, meaning 'this'.
'Respectul' is a merging of respect and receptacle filtered through common usage which has softened the final syallable, and 'ize' meaning simply 'is'.
The meaning therefore can be taken to be literally 'This respect is contained.'
But its meaning in usage is to describe someone whose respect for others is so well contained (hidden) as to be as good as not there.

(That sounded almost plausable! )

Decimation (Latin: decimatio; decem = "ten") was a form of military discipline used by officers in the Roman Army to punish mutinous or cowardly soldiers. The word decimation is derived from Latin meaning "removal of a tenth''. Normally I try not to think about it too much.

When I was a little kid I was probably too proud of the Italian part though.

lets hope the Italian part of you doesnt include driving like Ben Hur in a 30mph zone.

It seems that the flea that plagued humanity for most of history was the porcine flea, a large hungry vampire of a flea that is especially fond of swine. Cat fleas bite- but they cant live on humans- wrong sort of blood for them- but they dont know this till they try- so they will bite you to find out, especially around the ankles.
I use 'frontline spoton' on my cats- its not cheap for what you get but it is effective.

If you think where your cats sleep ect might be flea infested too you migth also need some flea powder for that.
