Re: Oddities, curiousities and strangness in history [2]
Most of this vid the science is dodgy, or not full, or misrepresented, but there is an amazing bit starting at 21.46
They are inside the Great Pyramid at Giza and a group is in the Queens Chamber chanting 'oommmm's'
I dont know about the theory that the Pyramid is some sort of harmonic resonator- but the sound is amazing and it interestingly, given Egypts love of them, got the attention of and held it off all three of my cats!
Anyway the sound bit starts at 21.46

I've been in the Queen's chamber. Takes a lot of imagination to be in that nondescript stone room and realize you've got a whole pyramid on top of you. Felt no vibes at all.

In what’s arguably the worst idea ever conceived, top science boffins are currently working tirelessly to bring back to life a virus that’s been frozen in the Siberian ice for 30,000 years.

Interesting idea, as long as they know how to contain it it might lead to vaccines ? cures ? or, something ultra shocking that scientists hadnt thought off ?

Viruses are pretty specific since they have to take over cell operation to multiply. Kind of rare to jump between species, avian flu and the like being a rare exception.

I sometimes get the impression as clever as scientists may be, they might be lacking in common sense , why experiment with dead viruses...haven't they read The Stand?

Spider shedding skin. Spiders have no inner skeleton, in order to grow they must shed their rigid external skin. During the moulting process the spider is in great danger from predators, as the soft body means it cannot move.

I suppose most people associate sex with nature. Pretty amazing so long as you don't stop to think about what you're doing.

Re: Oddities, curiousities and strangness in history [2]
I think this counts as an oddity of history:
According to this month's National Geographic (that's MLA isn't it? Underlining periodicals??), China has used more cement since 2012 than the U.S. has since 1900.

But yeah, pretty crazy statistic. I think something like 20 million Chinese people move from the countryside to the city every year as well.
That's more in a single year than the "Rustification" program or whatever moved Chinese youth from the city to the countryside over twelve years from 1962-1978 (18 million estimated).
Ironically China is only urbanizing this fast because the government is encouraging it so strongly.
Like 26% of Chinese lived in cities in 1990, and now it's almost 60%.
I mean that's just in my life time! More than twice as much a percentage of the population in China living in cities!
Here's what must be the downtown stretch of Shenzhen, China. First image is 1990, the second is 2010.
