Do we like Norc?
Re: Norc for presidency

It's probably better than having your neck hacked off by a dull axe that takes multiple swings, which was probably the most pleasant form of execution available in ye olde pre-guillotine days. However, if the rumors that the head can remain conscious for a few seconds or even minutes after decapitation by guillotine, however, then that throws it's "more humane, relatively speaking, oh god why am I making this comparison" status into question. I don't think anyone has ever confirmed if that happened, though, because subjects for scientific experiments involving guillotining are surprisingly hard to come by in this day and age.

My thinking exactly! FWIW if the moderators ever decide it's necessary to behead me, my preference would be guillotine.Eldorion wrote:

(The thought of Petty drunkenly flailing about with an axe.... )

I doubt this very much. Blood pressure should drop almost instantaneously, with consciousness fading almost as rapidly. (Not that I'm volunteering for the experiment, you understand! )

But just to make myself clear i don't think we need another mod, frankly the opposite and i don't say i would be the one to do it, but i am willing to become a symbolic mod i know i would do a fair job/not a damn thing, but i am not the judge of that soo.....

This thread has suddenly become too quiet for my liking.
I can almost hear the Council of Moderators muttering behind the Sacred Curtain.

Well now if I say anything it'll just be considered sweeping things under the rug, but if I don't say anything, it'll be considered even more ominous.

Re: Norc for presidency
I have a suggestion, why dont we Twin Norc with Forumshire, you know like they do with towns like Budapest/Bristol. she gets a nice plaque for her wall and a key of the tower of lore.

Re: Norc for presidency
I became a Mod reluctantly in bad times. We have plenty of Mods now. I mean. There are not a lot of things to do anyhow. And I think we only need to act in getting new Mods when a crying need arises, and then I think the Mods need to decide who to ask (after consultation, of course, with the wider Forumshire Community). I'm happy with The Big 4 at the mo. I say, if and when someone Important (like me) leaves, retires, or dies of old age or misadventure, then your name will surely come up in discussions. I mean, remember Halfy and Dave and Chris and Mrs Figg have been here longer, so we can't just promote someone because they ask. We need to consider things fully and fairly. Just my thoughts.

Not sure why sex matters more than country. We got one in each of the big 4 countries now, which is good for covering time zones.

I really don't appreciate being accused of sexism when I've actually promoted more female moderators than I have male ones since we got started here. The forum was more of a boy's club in the early days, and the majority of mods are drawn from older members, but we've actively tried to have a more equitable mod staff since then. It sucks that Baingil and Ally have both left the forum since their promotions but we aren't in need of more mods right now. Also, we do take other factors into consideration, including time zones like Halfy mentioned.
Re: Norc for presidency
Yeah it's fine it was just a thought. But i didn't acuse anyone of being sexist, i simply stated that the forum might appear so to newcomers, but it's fine, honestly, it was a good discussion. And i like my name in the colour it is.
Re: Norc for presidency
Who actually knows or pays attention to how many moderators there are unless they are actively intervening? I don't think visitors would have any clue, or care.

Re: Norc for presidency
But how much work is it to find out? It's not blaring away anywhere - the changes in colors are not explained in flashing letters, the mods never act as mods except to ax an account, which shouldn't happen to any newby who isn't actively looking for trouble anyway. I'd suspect most people are on here for months before they start to get a glimmer of who the mods are except Eldo. Hardly likely to discourage anyone.

Re: Norc for presidency
I can only remember one or two times we have actually needed a mod to sort out serious stuff, and that was for trolls from out The Wild, I spend most of my spare time fighting with a mod (Petty) so its obviously only in extreme situations we need one for interventions, just goes to show how different we are to TORn where you only need to say TH is not very good to get hounded out by mods with a sense of humour lobotomy.

And I think we should keep the mod powers just where they are in that relationship! { }
