oh god, you have no idea how hard I laughed at that xD
(I actually thought about that the other day, that someone must think I'm a male)
and totally agree on all the others. One wouldn't know where we're from (hadn't it been for our proud souls). Though Petty is quite obvious.. he mentiones it quite a lot and he had at a time as an avatar a legoman in a kilt.
the internett do work in mysterious ways..
Re: Denethor, who is he?
and you would never know from Chris's delicate Arwen Avatar that he is in fact a big hairy arsed muscle bound Ozzie bloke that walks around with no sleeves like what Orwell does now would you?
you are right Norc Petty does indeed mention it quite a lot, methinks he might forget if he doesnt remind himself every five minutes, pee brain that he is.

I'm sorry but as much as Halfwise's sentiment is very touchy-feely and modern and all, the truth is one day the world will be all just like Scotland, the buckie will flow free and all will be well. Until that time the benefits of being Scottish must be proudly promoted and you all remain foreigners and to be viewed with due suspicion! After all only foreigners have odd ways- everyone knows that.

Sigh. I was referring to the universality of humanity, Petty. The Scotch are obviously excluded.

Re: Denethor, who is he?
I remember when there was a theory going around here that I was a girl. I thought that was really weird since I've never made a secret of my gender and have even posted pictures. Maybe some people just give me more credit for sneakiness than I deserve. On the other hand, no one ever realizes how old I am, even though that's on my profile too.
I've had similar experiences as Halfwise when it comes to meeting people on the Internet and discovering how different - and similar - people can be when you're able to meet someone in a vacuum of sorts. I've always thought that it's really cool and it's one of my favorite things about forums like ours.

Aside from the fact that he appears to be staring in disgust at defecating farm animals (I'm making an assumption based on the time period) he is rather attractive.
I think he's looking at the other dude.

Everyone seems to think you're older, Eldo, dunno why, but they do... But clearly, I am much older than you...

I think that was during your kitten-avatar phase.

Re: Denethor, who is he?
halfwise wrote:you know, this thread brought out something which I've been enjoying for a long time, and Forumshire is a demonstration par excellence of the point.
Over the internet, all distinguishing features fade away except the personality. I had always assumed Norc was male based on the avatar, but after recent comments went back and discovered in the introduction thread that Norc was female. Nearly all the teenagers could be interchanged with the middle agers and there's no way to know - not from the writing style or intellect. The Norwegians could be from anywhere if they'd just stop spouting norwegian long enough for us to forget it....in short the internet really proves the unity of humankind that crosses age, sex, nationality, you have it. It's only when specific references are made to these identities that any of it becomes apparent.
So yeah, I've felt it for decades ever since I found my students back in west africa trying to pull the same pranks on their teacher that I did at the same age. It's just that with the electronic medium the surprises come more often, and are always delightful.

Re: Denethor, who is he?
But it's because Eldo is just so damn fine and intelligent. I'm actually older than him which makes me a bit sad about my own state of intelligence
There was something about him being a girl back at the old forum if I remember, but I have no idea how that actually started

Dammit Norc, I still have to keep reminding myself you're female.

Re: Denethor, who is he?
BTW thanks for your suggestions Mrs Figg, but I have suitably created my own avatar.
I wonder if I have been suitably 'in your face' enough to make people think I'm male and from the South East corner of Essex..... you fools.

Re: Denethor, who is he?
yes Lance I was totally fooled.
Eldo is scarily mature for a youngster thats why people dont get his age correctly.
Halfwise should defo get an award for that post, and we should have more creative awards this year ((((seeing as I didnt get one ))))))) maybe awards for eel wrangling? which I would totally rule.

Re: Denethor, who is he?
Long way to go to this years awards Mrs Figg- and this year I am planning to open them up more by having more categories submitted by Forumshire residents- plus TH film awards side of it will have an actual film to get categories from this year. So should be a bigger event than ever before!

Aw shucks, guys.
Wow, I barely remember that phase myself. I think I still have those kitten avatars saved somewhere; it was always fun finding new ones.
