Surely there's a place or two with student discount if you have some school ID? If folkehøgskule qualifies for that. Heck if I know.
Fake edit: yeah, something like that, Huff.

Yes we have a school ID. One girl at the school fixed us discounts for entrance at this pub not-so-far from the school! We usually just go to the supermarket and buy some beer. Much easier!

Yeah, but free entrence at the club is great though
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
Yes it is! But 70kr or more for a alcoholic beverage is kind of too much...

I'm with Huffjuff, it's much easier to just buy some at the store.
Though I do remember sitting outside drinking in more than -20 (I don't remember exactly, let's just say winter is cold in Trøndelag!) just in normal winter clothes when I went to Folkehøyskole, and then running to a bar as it was warmer. So perhaps I'm a bit of a hypocrite on this issue.

The trick is having a good vors, then evolve to the club given that you're not too drunk to be let in, then flutter your eye-lashes and get free drinks

I always prefered the vors. Because you actually get to sit around and talk to people. Quite often people you know and like. And that's what I find fun, anyway. When you go out you always end up at a place with music so loud it's impossible to talk.
I know that's an opinion a lot of people come to wth age, but I think I've always felt that way.

Not so sure this has to do with age, I think it has more to do with what sort of music you like and whether you're into dance floors or not. I can't stand those typical disco/rave places, the music is crappy and so loud it's impossible to even shout at one another. But if you go to smaller places they usually keep the volume down, and they might even play decent music. I prefer these, as they let you carry on conversations from before you went out, and it's actually possible to meet other people and talk to them

Yeah, but someone always drags you along to one of those noisy places. In my experience, anyway.
And a lot of places in Oslo playes loud music, irrespective of the taste.

Bloody Guinness. I used to serve a lot of that when I worked in a holiday home pub (my dream job!!)) and people who didnt know any better would order six pints of it and then complain when you still hadnt served it five minutes later- dont order a bloody Guinness if you dont understand you have to wait for it to properly settle before serving.

I like vors and to a degree nachspiels as well
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
Yeah, Irish pubs are nice, though I'm not a big fan of Guinness and Kilkenny and all that (I'm sure there are tons of nice Irish beer brands, I just haven't tried a lot of them). The problem with Irish pubs, however, is that they are everywhere - if you go to a city in a country you've never been to before, chances are you'll find and Irish pub, and your friends are going to want to go there instead of trying one of the local ones. Huge fan of Irish pubs, especially if there's live music, but when I go to new places I'd rather try new bars as well

In my bit of the world Irish pub is synonymous with catholic pub.
Which puts me in mind of a humorous but true story.
When I was but a youngster, about 13 or 14 I think my Dad took me to Ibrox to see Rangers playing.
My Dad is a big deal in the Scottish bowling scene, and represents a lot of clubs when it comes to organising country wide competitions, which means he has contacts in just about every bowling green club in the country.
In this case there was one near to Ibrox stadium which he had planned out as being or first port of call before the game for a few drinks, having started our days drinking in the morning, first on the ferry and then on the train.
Above the entrance doorway they had put up a big sign- 'no football scarfs to be worn on match days'- so obligingly we all took off our scarfs and stuffed them in our pockets and went in.
Only to be confronted by a bar decked out in red white and blue and heaving with rangers supports- they had rangers strips on, they had rangers flags, banners and hats.
But every single one of them had dutifully removed their scarf and stuffed it in their pocket.
And my Dad couldnt understand why I couldnt stop laughing.

Could pretty much have said Cetic scarves, couldn't it.
I think the thing about irish pubs in the wider world is that they're a bit like italian resturants. Now, a proper one is great, but as a general rule they're not very italian.. err.. irish.
That's kind of the thing, there aren't. The large Irish breweries are so huge that they've pretty much pushed away all competition. So, if you like the big brands you're fine, but, if not, you've not got much choice.. but to try a beer from a different country.. I guess..

This is a bit cool.
By using this database you can find, on a map, observations of both endangered and invacive species in your area.
http://artskart.artsdatabanken.no
And then read more about them here.
http://www.artsportalen.artsdatabanken.no
So, who knows. Maybe something particularily rare has been observed right on your doorstep.
Only works for fjordlandia though.

A world wide invasive species map would be impressive, but you have to wonder how far back in time to go in order to count as invasive. Some things have been transplanted for centuries.
Yep, if the Guinness shows up as soon as you order it, just plop down your tab and move to another bar. Quick Guinness ain't worth drinking.

Yeah, I think it's mainly a present tense consideration. And the consideration is whether the invasive alien species, a species outside it's natural area which arrives, survives and thrives, threaten or damage the original biodiversity of the area. How threatened the local biodiversity already makes this consideration even more important. The protection of local and often threatened and vulnerable landscapes, ecosystems and species is often the goal. And limiting the existence and spread of invasive species to prevent damage. Both generally and specifically.
Though obviously if you go far enough back all species are pretty much invasive.
