Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
i find this whole olympic shit so fucking provoking. like seriously! it would have cost less to have it in tromsø, yet everyone wants it to be in freaking oslo.. not that i want the olympics, but rather here than oslo. they have lots of stuff, we don't. and we got snow and they don't. and why don't we have a say in this, we gotta fucking pay the bill!!
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
It's the tyranny of Democracy.
Unpleasant things like expenses and taxes are distributed over as many people as possible to reduce the pain.
The cool things are built where they can be appreciated by the most people.
It's like old fashioned colonial exploitation behind a friendly mask.

Yeah, I think I've said I agree with before about Tromsø being a better choice.
I also felt the way that it was taken away from Tromsø always seemed a little too handy for the politicians. An easy way out.
Now. Why does people want to have it in Oslo?
I think a lot of it is down to the Cross Country World Championship beiung such a huge success. And it really was. Both in exposure and audience figures.
Also Holmenkollen is probably the most spectacular place for competetive cross country skiing in the world. On a clear day you can see the entier city and the fjord and everything, it's really rather beautiful.
And if we as a nation want winter sports to be taken seriously we really should contribute being such prominent participants. (One might not want that of course.)
Still, I'm certainly not pro-Olympics. But I don't have any strong opinions about it. This country certainly can afford it.
The silly thing is because the Olympics are so much bigger than the CCWC, they are planning to build these new stadiums in all these weird places.
And you do have a say. It's the politicians that you elected that will decide wether the state shall support it or not.

Who knows? Maybe afterwards one of these stadiums could become the new Edward Munch museum.

Well, Stortinget will make the final decision. So you do have your say that way. Well, as long as you voted in September that is.
I get that that's not the same though.
And those weren't necessarily my opinions, by the way. Just listing some reasons why people might think it is a good idea.
If anything I said why I think it wouldn't be.

Though they are apparently going for this Lambda thing now.

yeah, i got that it wasn't your opinions and i did vote, but i didn't vote blue..
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
Yeah, me neither.
What I think to myself is that, at least every vote not for the current governement made sure they didn't get a majority. There was talk about that possibility at a time.
Now, that would have been a disaster.
But, yeah. At least they'll need support from KRF and Venstre to decice on supporting the Olympic bid.

As far as I've been told it was started as a Sherlock spoiler free thread. But I think it's just turned into a general fjordlandian talk thread.
I think everyone should free to stop by, order whatever's on tap and have a chat.

This is not from where I live, but from a municipality nearby - a wildfire has broken out and is out of control because of the wind and the fact that it is so dry in the area. This is almost unbelievable - a wildfire in January, unstoppable because it's dry Global warming indeed

That fire looks as fierce as you can get Ringo ! It seems odd for me to hear somewhere in Scandilandiland has DRY areas ? enough for a widespread burn up ?! I always think of the wildlife at times like this.

It's very strange - there's been next to no snow this winter. The Starks can keep their proverbs! It's worrying, and not right at all. I certainly hope this isn't what winters will be in the future.

It's certainly out of the prdinary. They just had that other big fire as well.
Thankfully noone has gotten hurt. It's good to remember that, at least.

Strange that you should mention it. I think I actually have a great great great Scottish something or other somewhere.
