Those look like mug shots for a police booking.
What did they do, tremolo in public places? Spiccato on a bus?

So last of my brohters bands concert series tonight with a trompetist called Hayden Powell.
Here's a picture:
Really shocking to see what one can do with the instrument, when one has played it in a marching band oneself.

How are they to play?
My brother was trying to play the one I have last year. So he had a friend of his who plays violin look it, and she apparently said it was rather hard to play.
i didn't see this until now the violin is a bit loud, but i don't have much to compare with. they're ok to play, not brilliant, but not bad either.

Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
I know. I still have my old cornetto lying around my parents place and tried to play it just recently. How anyone can get those sort of sounds out of them? I don't know.
I'll let you know.
Just not right here.

You're not the only one to have orchestra in school, you know.

Now - how about getting your mobile out and recording something on Youtube for us, Norc - and it's piss easy to do.* Surely I'm not the only daring hobbit here!

It will be interesting to hear what you think of this then, Orwell

Don't worry about it. I've been rather busy too.
I was kind of wondering, if the instrument I have is rather dificult to play, if it would be better to get another one for learning. I don't know what your advice would be?
I did finally get around to buying new strings by the way, so might get around to playing a bit in the next couple of days.
I think I might have gushed enough about your instruments already, but, yeah, they look great.

Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
I don't have any good advice, it all comes down to how u feel about the instrument.
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
Ah, ok. I'll just plod along then.
Thing is I was wrong, it wasn't my grandfathers, it was my great grand fathers. My father was given it when he was 9 or 10, and it's bit of a family heirloom. Well, at least from a sentimental perspective. So I have to be a bit carefull with it.
Then again instruments are meant to be played.
Isn't that the dictionary definition of a concert performance?

My violin belonged to my dad, though it's not very old it says made in der deutche demokratische republik insie it.
Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
It will certainly have an interesting history then.
Actually, my father was one of few people from the outside who got to visit East Berling before the wall fell. He went there with an Opera production. I think it was quite a special experience.

Re: Fjordlandia Viking bar & kaffistove, main str. 221B, Needlehole [2]
Yeah, it think it was quite special.
You could walk down the street with any amount of money in your pocket and there really wasn't anything to buy. (Well, except for quite nice violins maybe. )
Did get around to playing some violin today, but I'm having some problems with the new string. It seems to be smaller and therefore a bit harder to hit with the bow without touching the other strings. Might have to change the rest of the strings as well. Which is a bit daunting, as I made a mess of changing the first one.
So while I did try to record some stuff today, my violin playing isn't really sounding worthy of recording at the moment.

changing strings is hard thought, there is a lot to be cautious of. like make sure the strings in the head don't touch/overlap for instance.

Wow.
You're very lucky in the place you live Nora.
After all you might have grown up in Oslo.

That would've been a sad story

Well, you would be talking like me and not wearing seal skin boots but uggs and some other haut couture fashion and doing silly things people from Oslo do.
Yeah, it's probably for the best.
