Forest you are my HERO
you tell these heathens.
''Oh look!" you say, "what poorly written dialogue! If only Bakshi could have directed this film instead. Perhaps this would work best in play format. After all, the visuals matter not, this is Tolkien we're talking about. Bring on the rotoscopes! HahahohohehehHA!"

It does work remarkably well in play form for a visual book strangely enough- I would direct you to the BBC Radio 4 version with Ian Holm as Frodo.
Despite some rough patches and the limitations of the medium it still as drama, narrative and adaptation pisses all over Pj's effort from a very great height indeed.

Really? I thought it was rather straw mannish myself...at least I never said I preferred BakshiEldorion wrote:That part was especially spot on.

I figured it was more directed at Petty (and others like him), who frequently sings the praises of Bakshi on this forum.

Oh, okay. That makes sense thenEldorion wrote:I figured it was more directed at Petty (and others like him), who frequently sings the praises of Bakshi on this forum.
It should be noted, though, that the opening montage of FotR is strongly reminiscent of the one in Bakshi's movie.

Re: Hobbit vs. LOTR
given a choice between Bakshi and no cinematic/animated version of Tolkien, I would prefer just to have the books. It was hideous. Dont care how faithful it was.

Re: Hobbit vs. LOTR
If you do a search for Bakshi on here Raddy you should turn up a thread I did doing a comparison- the amount of places particularly during FotR where PJ's visuals, lighting choices, or even sets, bear a remarkable likeness to Bakshi's is worthy of note- everything from the Black Rider scene to the gates of Bree and the room Strider confronts Frodo in.
The biggest crime Bakshi committed against Tolkien was to inspire PJ to make his own version.

No argument about that. I dislike the Bakshi film but I find it easier to ignore (also good for a few laughs).Mrs Figg wrote:given a choice between Bakshi and no cinematic/animated version of Tolkien, I would prefer just to have the books. It was hideous. Dont care how faithful it was.
