Then why were you asking us which edition to buy?
I thought we were trying to tell you what you just said.

Re: My FOTR book has 2 books?
Someone from my group home told me it would be a good idea to read my book but also listen to an audiobook at the same time and it would help me recite things and help with pronouncing the words that I can't. Would that person be right about that?

I can't say I've ever tried that. I don't listen to audiobooks much and I prefer reading, but just go with whatever you prefer. I wouldn't try doing both at the same time, though. It's not like you need to recite anything and we've all mispronounced something (sometimes many things) from Tolkien.

Thank you! Ill go with the reading and no audiobooks. That's what I prefer.Eldorion wrote:I can't say I've ever tried that. Re: My FOTR book has 2 books?
As I'm sure you know, different people learn in different ways. For me, it would be easier to read a new book by itself first, just focusing on the story and not worrying about how to pronounce the words. Then later if I wanted I could go back and listen to an audio book.
One of the pleasures of reading is that you can go at your own pace, reading slowly and flipping back several pages when you're trying to figure things out, or sometimes racing along and skimming when you really want to know what's going to happen next. You can't do that as easily when you're listening to an audiobook.
But again, everybody learns a little differently, so I can't say what will work best for you.

Actually, though the movies got many things wrong they DID try hard to get the names pronounced the way Tolkien intended. So if you've seen those you don't have to go through what many of us did and wonder if so-and-so you just talked to is actually pronouncing it RIGHT and you've got it WRONG.

Re: My FOTR book has 2 books?
My suggestion: simply read the whole story (all three parts; all six books!) at your own pace (as David said) and enjoy the story! Breath it, live it!!
And don't stop halfway through to wonder if you're doing it the right way!
If there's questions about the story arising then don't hesitate to ask them!
But asking how to read Lord of the Rings seems like asking how to pray to god (for religious folk) to me....
Simply go for it, php!
By the way: My favourite book is book four, because of the beauty of Ithilien....
And don't stop halfway through to wonder if you're doing it the right way!

What are you talking about? English is the only language I know and I don't know any other language.Norc wrote:if u want to learn english it isn't such a bad idea.php111 wrote:Someone from my group home told me it would be a good idea to read my book but also listen to an audiobook at the same time and it would help me recite things and help with pronouncing the words that I can't. So why did you make that statement?

Everyone knows you Fjordians only pretend to have your own language Norc, and really you all speak English all the time.

It's okay. Norc doesn't speak English, her language comes straight from the docks.
