it's "mein name ist" but it is more correct to say "ich heiße ..." (literally I am called)

have u guys ever heard the story of Erasmus Montanus? written by the norwegian author Ludvig Holberg.

it's about this farmer son, Rasmus Berg, who goes off to Copenhagen and studies philosophy. when he comes back he annoys the whole village, saying they're rocks and stuff and he only discusses in latin and yeah. google him.

Looked it up on wiki- liked the sound of it, decided to see if there was film or tv version of it on youtube- got this-

Ive got the basic story I think from that and the short wiki entry- he goes to uni from the farm gets very clever, comes to believe earth is round not flat, goes home, they dont like his thing about the earth, breaks up with a girl, annoys everyone, has a clever brother who uses his clever only for practical stuff, renounces his belief, marries girl.

But, where the buggery does the rock come into it?

he gets really cocky because he has studied latin and "philosophia" and starts disputes with every single one of them. when he wrote a letter home he wrote it in latin, not danish, and his parents couldn't read it. so when he goes home he is a master in the ancient latin discussion-techniques.. (lol..) he says his mother is a rock because rocks cannot fly and she cannot fly ergo she is a rock. and he pretty much pisses off every single person at home. His fiancé thinks he's having an afair with Sofia (but it really is just him talking about philosofia) and he cannot marry her before he says her father isn't a cock and that the earth is flat. and whenever he wants to win discussions he does it in latin. so he kinda switched mother-tounge. and then someone points out to him that he cannot defend his points in danish and yeah  it's a funny story.

danish because that was the proper language to talk and write in norway during the 1800-ish
