Agreed. I don't think Allen Rickman has ever sunk more deeply into character than he did for these roles. Did he ever win an award? Shame on everyone for not giving him one.

Its the Voice that does it for me. Its extraordinary. and I have always liked ugly/beautiful men. Perfect handsomness does nothing for me at all. People like Brad Pitt, the recent spate in Ryans, totally boring. I like Gary Oldman as well. I remember seeing him in the theatre before he was famous, well before Sid and Nancy anyway. He had the most electric charisma I have ever experienced from one human being. But Alan Rickman is the creme de la creme for charisma.

I liked Rickman in Dogma hated him in Hitchhikers.

He was Marvin the Paranoid Android, right? I think he was hampered by being a pure voice actor for that role. He should have owned it, but it didn't quite work.

Well he was an insult to the original Marvin certainly- who is brilliant, has played the part for decades and is still alive, fit and healthy and working in tv to this day- why they changed to Rickman I dont know- didnt help that most of Marvins lines were pretty rubbish in the film too.

Hmm, that's not the voice I remember from the radio play, which I thought was closer to Rickman's.

Nope same guy being doing it since begining- the radio plays, tv and eventually back to the radio plays again when they did the final books after Adams sad passing.

Heres a nice short making of doc for the when they reunited to make the final books in the original medium- radio. You may well recognise the guy who does Marvin as he has been countless Biritish tv productions.

I think I've said this before, but I consider the HGG BBC radio performances to be one of the zeniths of human cultural achievement. Keep wanting to pick up a copy of the recordings now that they've been reissued.
