Freeing women (or helping them free themselves, mind!) is NOT a Cause with me, but a Calling, GB.

And as to "Lefty lingo" - don't be so pompous!* The emancipastion of women is not the preserve of the Left - it's the preseerve of ALL actual Humans - as opposed to Tories.
As to you other guys here - why are you worrying about the Presidential (boring) debate when GB and I are discussing the most important problen facing Humanity? - Female Slavery! Are you going to leave it to one genuine Forumshiran Women's Libber and one Forumshiran Looney Lefty to solve the greatest problem facing the planet?

Re: US Presidential Election 2012
Ok I've watched the first debate.
Now if I hadn't been following things so far, and this was the first time I had paid any attention I would have thought Romney to be a moderate Republican, willing to work across the floor and compromise where necessary and th ebetter candidate.
If I was paying a bit closer attention I might have noticed Romney was not actually saying in any detail what he would do beyond repealing legislation brought in my Obama, but without removing any of the parts of it that seem popular (such as coverage for people with preexisiting illnesses).
If I was paying much closer attention I might have noticed a lot of what Romney was saying seemed to contradict a lot of what he has said previously and what his own backers seem to be arguing for and expecting from him.
Obama I thought was poor. He was never really precise enough on detail- he to blatantly pushed figures repeatedly he had been given about Romneys plans rather than pushing Romney to explain why those figures weren't right.
And on healthcare- where Obama was better he still never managed to lay a decisive blow or get Romney on the ropes for any time.
And lastly I agree with others- this was one of the worst officiated debates I have ever seen. Hopeless.

Good point about Obama not pressing Romney on why the 5 trillion number was wrong, they both sounded sounded like broken records ignoring what the other guy said, but Obama more so than Romney.

Re: US Presidential Election 2012
I dont understand why Obama was so meek.
If it had been me on the healthcare debate I would pushed Romeny on his stance regards abortion and a womans right to make a choice without the state dictating it to her- that would have exposed Romneys personaly views, brought his religous viewws into it as well as making him have to defend a policy of increased Federal interference in a womans right to choose.
On the economy when the matter of regulation came up- Obama mentioned almost in passing it was the Republicans failure to regulate and their over cosy releationship with big business donators which led to the crisis and debt- and worse he failed to connect those policies to Romney's current policies.
I just thought he was very weak when it came to going on the offensive.

Re: US Presidential Election 2012
I agree with you about Obama's meekness, Petty. It felt reminiscent of his first year or two in office when he was trying to play softball with Republicans and seemed totally out of his depth whenever they came out swinging.

Re: US Presidential Election 2012
I'm fairly vocal when a young thing trips past (literally!) in high heels. I like to let them know what silly, dangerous contraptions those things are, symbolic of all that holds them back. I exhort that they should free themselves.
They normally look confused and reply that they wear them because they like them. So I give up and inform them that they've got no brains at all and the revolution has left them stranded.
Then I ask if they wouldn't mind providing a critique of my bar pickup technique and they tend to roll their eyes and walk away leaving me to nurse my drink in solitude.

Re: US Presidential Election 2012
I just say I like their high heels (and generally I do), and it's amazing how little I have to say after that. Indeed, they do most of the talking. (I've also found actually listening to what they say works a treat - though it can be hard work at times.)

Now you see, I had to go look those up. Those are like a cross between high heels and a wooden nutcracker. Sorry, but this particular zombie is out.
Some lace-up-the-calf Roman sandals and a teeny sheer dress might do the trick. Fetch me one of those zombies.

I'll happily buy you any shoes you want at the fair if you'll chase me around like a zombie. (why do I feel like we're talking right past each other?)

Okay, for those keeping score, I think Ally Norced this thread. I was tempted to award it to Orwell, but he was at least somewhat on topic before things went completely caterwampus.

Re: US Presidential Election 2012
Back to topic: (sorry )
I couldn't resist going over to the Gallup website and checking out Obama's approval numbers. He's been stagnant in the mid to high 40% range for quite a while, but since the debate his approval has shot up to 54%! That's his highest approval since Oct 2009.
So although most people say he lost the first debate, he seems to be winning the war by simply not appearing negative or arrogant. An interesting tactic, but it seems to be working....

Re: US Presidential Election 2012
Looks like Obama still might have a chance, guys! Even after his debate performance he now has a very valuable endorsement from the artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg.
Snoop's instagram (lol): http://instagram.com/p/QYGWYpP9Pd

- Spoiler:
- He didn't actually write it himself but the guy who did is cool with Snoop getting the word out.
Re: US Presidential Election 2012
Not to distract from the important issue of Snoop's endorsement, but Rolling Stone put together a good list of the biggest lies Mitt Romney made in the first debate. Hopefully none of these come as a surprise.

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-first-debate-mitt-romneys-five-biggest-lies-20121004
The First Debate: Mitt Romney's five biggest lies
1. "I don't have a $5 trillion tax cut."
2. "I will not reduce the taxes paid by high-income Americans."
3. "We've got 23 million people out of work or [who have] stopped looking for work in this country."
4. Obamacare "puts in place an unelected board that's going to tell people ultimately what kind of treatments they can have."
5. "Pre-existing conditions are covered under my plan."
