Re: Homosexuality
*Warning! This following post contains seriousness and stubbornness!*
I may have a naive and pick-and-choose approach to Christianity and the Bible, but the Jesus I learned about as a kid was all about forgiveness, healing, comfort and love.
I refuse to believe that what is "correct" according to the (possibly twisted interpretations of the) Bible, is the truth, when my heart and soul scream in protest. Old rules from a past long gone. Rules change, laws change. We evolve and move forward (hopefully). I can't even wrap my head around the idea of turning my back to a friend, or anyone, because they should happen to love someone of the same gender... God or no God, evolution, Mother Nature, Vishnu or whatever it is that made us and drives us humans. This is what I believe to be true into the very core of my being. If God gave me this heart and if God gave me this soul then He also knows all there is to know about me. If I am to burn in hell for this, then I hope I can face the frying pan with my head held high and a clear conscience.

There's that Joshua who killed every man, woman and child in Jericho.... Nah, I figure he'll be in Heaven, front seat, no doubt. Shame. Wouldn't mind seeing that prick fry... That King of Crims, Jehovah, could do with a frying too, but as he holds the Keys to the Kingdom, I guess he's safe from getting what he actually deserves too. Oh well. Can't have everything.

On the subject of Homosexuality, I had two openly Gay teachers at College, several gay/lesbian classmates, what they got up to in their private lives was none of my concern, and certainly didn't effect how I viewed them.
I guess it's not a big deal to my generation.

I am still technically a mod with the power to delete posts, modify posts and ban people - although Ive never been happy about it on the basis I am too drunk to figure out how to do it- but then I realised what Eldo really needed was just someone to swat bots (Im good at that ask Figgs ) and people he could right off as tax expenses
I guess it's not a big deal to my generation.- Malick
I reckon if things dont take a nasty turn for the worse through religion, that in a generation or two no one will remember what the fuss was about.

By and large the younger generations are more open minded, which brings a new morality (looser in some ways, stricter in others!) I approve of.
I just wish they could do basic arithmetic.

Back to the point, yeah I don't think anyone's going to care in twenty or thirty years in the UK, we are by and large an moving towards an majority Atheist country IMO (out of about 150 people students I knew well at school/college, four were actively religious), and whatever peoples' personal views on the subject it's not going to make a lot of difference in the long run.

ou oly have to look at church attendance in the Uk to see that its a minority sport these days.
The biggest potential problem is that those of other religions who are more zealotry take over instead in the vacuum left by Christianity.

Well again based on personal experience, I can't really see that happening myself, the other major religions-Islam, Hinduism are largely due to urban immigration, those students I knew of those faiths, had just as little success at provoking the interest of my peers.
Maybe we are too tolerant...

As in, they never get worked up enough about an issue to actually have a discussion about it, by being ignorant and not taking much notice or interest in issues they are actually causing a problem-'Dosen't effect or interest me, so why so I be bothered by how it turns out'
Well, it made sense in my head...

There's definitely a generational factor to the increasing acceptance of LGBT people. It's extremely gratifying to see, even though progress for the T part is lagging behind.

Technically we have five mods, not all of them active anymore, though it's a very low-activity position. There's a bit of behind-the-scenes stuff but not much.

Re: Homosexuality
Okay. So sorry to bring back a semi-old topic (and on a serious note nonetheless! ) but I have to put in my two cents.
I don't think homosexuality is "wrong", persay. Do I support it wholeheartedly? No, but I'm not going to prevent somebody from living their life happily because of my beliefs.
However, I also think that if you don't agree with it, you have every right to say so, and to not have your job threatened to be taken, or something like that, just because you exercised your constitutional right to free speech. (Just speaking for Mericans on that last sentence. I think, anyway.)
Call me Switzerland if you will, but I'm pretty neutral in this one.

You've got to be careful about the right of free speech argument though, Arwen. Free speech is only healthy in a society if everybody is civil and agrees to respect the rights of others. (Just look at our divided congress that's become so dysfunctional that all they can do is lob insults back and forth and sue the President. It's just like watching the Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq! )
Taking homosexuality and heterosexuality out of the equation for a moment, do you feel that you have every right to tell strangers or coworkers how they ought to run the intimate details of their lives? Don't they have some rights of privacy too?
Suppose for example I felt strongly that tall women should not be allowed to date short men because it ruins their posture. It may not be illegal to lecture every tall woman or short man I see about my personal prejudice, but it's also not going to win me many friends. Honestly, if I were my boss I'd probably look for an excuse to fire me!
