Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
Hi, I'm Beleg, the same handle I used over on the Hobbit Movie Forum. I had not posted there in months and went to check it out today and it seems that everyone is over here now. I chose Beleg because he was an archer as am I. I first read The Hobbit in 7th grade English, which would have been around 1979-1980. As soon as I found out there was more to the story I read LOTR voraciously and most of the Silmarillion. I enjoyed the LOTR movies although I was frustrated and disappointed in some of the changes and omissions. However, I thought The Hobbit: AUJ was an abomination. I did not enjoy it and only saw it once. I will be watching TH: DOS at least once because there are things I've been waiting to see since 1979-1980. Things like Smaug, Smaug in flight over Laketown, Smaug going down courtesy of Bard's last arrow, Beorn changing shapes, Beorn in bear form crashing down upon Bolg in battle and crushing him. I know the story is going to be fouled up in all sorts of unnecessary ways, but there are some things I've just got to see and I don't think TH or LOTR will be redone in my lifetime so this is my only chance.
Speaking of Smaug going down over Laketown...one of my favorite sights is a giant Canada goose, weighing maybe 15 lbs. doing a cannonball from treetop high into deep water (this occurs after being killed in flight). Let me tell you it is a sight to behold....so what would it be like when Smaug is stricken in flight and plummets into the lake? Extraordinary, that's what.

Welcome, Beleg! I just arrived here myself a day or two ago. For details re: Bree you might want to see the thread over at:

Re: Smaug, if I'm not mistaken you won't get to see the battle over Laketown in this movie - you will have to wait 'till the next one. Beorn, however, will be present. (Anyone else: correct me if I'm wrong...)

More Breelanders, it's plenty warm by the fire.

Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
Yes RA, it is getting cosy round the fireside, I imagine us all like the 13 dwarves, Gandalf & Bilbo even more now, chatting in the candle light, smoke curling up to the ceiling, Petty, burping & farting, cuddling his Buckie barrel.

Hi Beleg. I've tried archery a couple of times (shooting at targets), but I'm not very good at it. It does seem like a lot of fun though.

I have a composite bow I'm fond of.
I never could get into recurve or longbows though.

Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
Yo, Carcharoth here. Some might know me from what you call Bree as Huan, Carcharoth and Telperion (I got banned a lot). Noticed the Pony was to all intents and purposes deserted so I decided to make an account here. How much I will post here probably depends on how much or little I enjoy the new film. If I like it, I will carefully explain to you why you are all wrong. If I don't like it, well, I don't find agreeing with people to be overly entertaining
I don't do it deliberately, but trouble does seem to stalk me like devious shadow. So yeah, sorry in advance I guess.

Hi Carcharoth. I don't know if we ever met on Bree (it's been a while since I've posted there), but I watched the last round of drama between you, as Tel, and Stu. We have our dramatic moments here but generally try to keep things going on a steady course. Just try not to be too antagonistic and remember the forum rules -- especially "don't take anything too seriously".
