Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
We tried playing without pads for a few decades, but the government made us stop when they realized dozens of people were dying every year playing the game.

I'm with you Norc, but let's say 'professional sports'. Beach volleyball excepted, of course.

dont like group sports, I prefer to do sport on my own where no one can laugh and poke fun. like horizontal jogging, or deep sea crumpet diving.

Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
American football is a VERY different game from rugby. Just because of both the rules and flow of the game, American football players need pads or they will end up getting smashed to little bits very regularly. Rugby, while no more or less physically demanding, flows very differently and so when tackles are made (and also because of the rules as to how you can tackle), the likely resultant damage is very different and so pads arent really needed.
Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
Thank you, Lance! This is the sort of informative discussion that could only result from having a football banner.

Principle! And what would be the fun if you got no reactions?

But Mrs Figg -- the party last week -- the group sports.... don't you remember? Jolly good fun... Your squeals at least seemed to be ones of joy?

Okay, we hate professional team sports. Except for beach volleyball. And maybe curling.

Ah....yeah. Just not professional curling, right?
And yes, Norc: we like these individual sports, just not the regional team ones what makes grown men jump around and throw perfectly good pizza at the telly.

Re: Welcome and Introductions (Newbies, Please)
I just realized, those deprived Europeans only have one sport that makes them jump around and throw pizza at the TV. Over here we have a whole host of civilized barbarity: football, baseball, basketball, hockey....
