Re: Drogo Baggins ?
Yeah that came up in the news thread somewhere already. Still not sure if they've recast Drogo or if he is doing both. Ideally they will have dumped Drogo out of it.

Does that update imply that Gage is probably shooting scenes in the UK at the same time as Christopher Lee, or am I totally misreading it? If so, then I have to ask how in Middle-earth either Drogo Baggins or some Lake-town person be in the same scenes as Saruman (who would, presumably, be involved with the White Council)? Maybe Drogo is actually a Hobbit secret agent and his "drowning" death was a cover-up.

Re: Drogo Baggins ?
Well, if they must include the White Council, then I would just as soon have them use the same actors (except Hugo Weaving; he sucked as Elrond ). I'd rather not see the White Council at all for reasons we've gone over many times, particularly because it would distract from Bilbo's story which is what The Hobbit is all about, but since there's going to be Saruman, like it or not, I'd rather he be played by Christopher Lee.
Re: Drogo Baggins ?
I also think Christopher Lee is superb. I also think he is unnecessary of course in this. And yes if he has to be there, best its Lee (although LotR was a fair time ago now and he was an old man then) and as much as it saddened me in the last video from PJ posted in which Sir Christopher appeared, there was denying his voice was not as steady, nor as controlled, nor as pure as it once was. There was the definite crack of age in it. And I do fear the performance whilst given in full devotion and professionalism may not overcome age.

Re: Drogo Baggins ?
That is true, I suppose, and it is why they are filming Lee's scenes in London: he didn't want to fly out to New Zealand at his age. I suspect that Saruman's role will not be particularly strenuous for these reasons, and I hope that Mr. Lee will be okay. Then again, he did start a symphonic metal group a just a couple of years ago, so go figure.
Re: Drogo Baggins ?
Yes well I didnt say his mind, nor ambition nor desire had aged. I have no doubt from what he says those are still as alive and as well and as keen as ever, but how he sounds saying it gave me pause for concern. Might not matter so much oddly enough if Saruman were played by anyone else, but Christopher Lee's voice is very much a big part of the draw of his performances.

Now young Eldo, it wasn't Hugo's fault, it was the script. Also, if they had kept the scene where he recites the One Ring poem, we might have all been more forgiving. Actually, maybe not, I didn't like the way he recited it.

I'm unconvinced. The script was certainly a part of it -- and giving Elrond a hatred of Men is one of the things I dislike most about the movie character -- but it was also the delivery a lot of lines that in and of themselves weren't objectionable. I know it's a joke to, when Elrond says "Welcome to Rivendell...", finish the line as "...Mr. Anderson", but his delivery really does come off as reminiscent of Agent Smith. I can't know for sure who to blame for that (maybe PJ wanted Weaving to channel his earlier performance), but I would think that that was largely the actor's decision.
Re: Drogo Baggins ?
Well does anyone notice that Sir Ian Mckellen is aged as well??? In all of the videos, he seems he can hardly think of what to say! He seems older to me than Lee (I know he's not) and I'm worried about his performance... I don't think we'll have a sharp, quickl-to-anger Gandalf here

I have to say my main gripe with McKellans Gandalf (and obv the script) is we never got that in LotR's save a few meagre scraps.

Re: Drogo Baggins ?
McKellen always seemed a little absent-minded in interviews to me, for whatever reason. I haven't watched many recent videos of him though.
Re: Drogo Baggins ?
I haven't seen any lately, either. (No, this isn't spam --- not really...)

Thanks Petty! I first saw the pic a while back and I couldn't get enough of it and then I stumbled on it again just a few days ago.

Íf Drogo is in the movie, I wonder how Peter will make it work.

Re: Drogo Baggins ?
Was Drogo Baggins ever recast? We know Ryan Gage switched to the Master of Laketown, but this was in the middle of production, I can't remember any of the cast talking about Bilbo's return to the shire, I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Re: Drogo Baggins ?
I haven't heard anything about Drogo in ages. PJ did describe Alfrid as a larger role, and said that they gave it to Ryan Gage because they liked him and wanted him to be more prominent in the films. My hunch is that they never intended for Drogo to do more than appear in the background of one or two scenes (like Mr Proudfoot in FOTR), but I don't know for sure. I don't believe he was ever recast. He's not listed on IMDb as part of AUJ, though that's not exactly an authoritative source.
