WILF? I know what a MILF is, haven't quite worked out WILF.

Which, in turn, makes me think of ‘Dick and Fanny’ in the Magic Faraway Tree, they’re gone too.... Brits!

Um, RTD and Moffat had a new Doctor (2 each in fact!) all new characters, all new monsters and all new stories (how can you not have all new stories?) this is just stating what all showrunners do!!

And Jodie has said of playing the Doctor, "I'll do it my way." 

Um, I'm seeing a pattern here! Isn't that what every actor whose played the part does? You'd think that kind of went without saying. }}}

I am sensing a potential grass length scenario as regards this new New Who. Don't know why. its spooky.

{{Not at all Figg- more a case of highlighting just how circumspect they are being. Even when they make a public statement (in this case for Radio Times interview) they dont actually say anything at all about the series. Just like we still dont know who is writing any of it. Or like how since her appearance at her regen we have only heard her say two word "oh brilliant" and arguably one of them isn't a proper word, yet we've had two promo teasers featuring her.
The deliberate intent seems to be 'say nothing about anything' }}}}

I suppose I should have watched Petty's video. As a general rule I treat his videos here as fan fluff so don't bother to click on them.

{Biggest take from that interview is that every episode is a stand alone- 'a mini-movie'. Sounds familiar! (I also personally prefer series with two or even three part stories as even with an hour now per episode an extra 10mins is sometimes not enough. And does the 'you can jump in at any episode' mean no overall series arc? }}

hhhmmm that trailer was crap. the dramatic music and the Coronation Street happy-clappy feel didn't gel. her voice over was reeeeeely bad, false and stagey. it sounded like she was reading it and trying hard to enunciate the words to make it sound exciting. it wasn't.

{{{Yeah the voice over isn't great, but more worryingly for me I would say that's because its not very well written! I'm rather hoping someone at BBC Marketing wrote and insisted on that voice over and it wasn't written by Chibbers. }}

The writing is rather poor, certainly, but... she seems nice.

{{ Cant say as I am enamoured of this 'touchy-feely' stuff going on here, was same in the previous interview- there is an over effort that comes off as false to create a sense of friendship between them all. And from this that seems to stem from a conscious choice: in  classic Who the Doctor had 'Assistants', in NuWho to date we have had 'Companions' and now apparently we have 'Friends' as the official designation.

But an assistant or a companion is not necessarily or automatically a friend of the Doctor, some he becomes friends with and very close to, but plenty just operate as an assistant or as company in the form of a companion but are not his friends.
For example in NuWho Donna was a friend, Martha a companion. The Doctor never formed the sort of personal bond with her he did with Rose or Donna, Amy or Clara, but he liked her, he respected her a great deal and he admired her, but they weren't friends in the same sense. So what will they call people like her, who travel with the Doctor for a bit but are not her friends? Or from now on is everyone who goes onto the TARDIS going to have to be her friend too!?}}

not liking the friends thing either. its all a bit naff. what's wrong with a female doctor having assistants or companions? it doesn't feel exciting to me at the moment. I like Jodie and I like her accent, but I hope she doesn't overdo the Northern bit or the female bit, or the identity politics bollox thing.

Friends implies equality. To match the Doctor they need to have stand-alone interest. If they can't stand by themselves then they need to be assistants or 'companions' - where in the Whoverse this implies somewhat of 'pet' thrown in the mix.
