Re: I Love The Tories - NOT
I remember hearing about the bedroom tax when it started and while the stories of its impact are not surprising, they're still awful and disappointing.

I just wish there were still mobs in London, and I would gladly sit there knitting at the foot of Madame Guillotine. first for the chop. Duncan Smith. But people cant be arsed mobbing if there's X Factor on tv.

Im still surprised we havent had any kind of civil unrest, I mean like a jolly good punch up ! Whats up with the British ? we used too, we picked up our pitch forks & went amok, now, we just grumble, mumble, mumble, grumble. The Dunkirk spirit has Dunfookall. My friends & I were sure there would be riots etc.

Re: I Love The Tories - NOT
I know. its like we have lost our fighting spirit. the only ones fighting are doing the wrong kind of fighting, ie drunks on a Saturday night. but people nowadays aspire to be TOWIE stars and would be afraid of missing Eastenders and the kebab, not to mention they are now too fat to move off their arses and are too full of cheap beer to care. its just easier to do nothing and be filled with apathy and uncaring about the suffering pensioners next door. people don't give a shit, working class pride is dead, where there used to be solidarity and pride there are just the mass of ignorant selfish underclasses who think robbing and getting drugged up is the way to go. sometimes I think its game over, but it still gets me hopping mad.

I agree with you Figgles. Digital bits N bobs dont help. In the old days you had the power of speech. You went out, voiced yourself & rallied people round. Now, you dont even need to get up. just use a smart phone or computer to be angry. To be fair, I just voted against that twat via my PC ?

Re: I Love The Tories - NOT
I've just noticed how the role of the British Secretary of State actually seems to fit the description, while the US secretary of state should really be named "Foreign Minister" or something .... not that we have ministers. Secretary of the Exterior?

Im getting really worked up politically now Its feels good to have someone fiercely standing up for vulnerable people, I wish they didnt have to. Our peoples health FIRST, care for your own people FIRST, then, if you can, help other nationalities 2nd, thats how I feel. I know I wont be liked for it but, thats how I feel.

There are lots of secretaries of state in the UK. It's a sort of generic descriptor that comes before the minister's area of responsibility (eg, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, which is equivalent to the US Secretary of State). But I do agree that its usage makes more sense.
Re: I Love The Tories - NOT
The only ones who could understand & make sense of it all was " Yes,Prime Minister" !

Talking Yes, Minister, I'm studying with a guy who went to the LSE.

Can't find a clip, but..
Hacker, Sir Humphrey and Bernard discussing Hacker's appointment as Transport Supremo
Hacker: Furthermore, Sir Mark thinks there may be votes in it, and if so, I don't intend to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Sir Humphrey: I put it to you, Minister that you are looking a Trojan Horse in the mouth.
Hacker: You mean, if I look closely at this gift horse, I would find it's full of Trojans?
Bernard: If you had looked the Trojan Horse in the mouth, Minister, you would have found Greeks inside.
Odd look from Hacker... Bernard: Well, the point is it was the Greeks who gave the Trojan Horse to the Trojans, so technically, it wasn't a Trojan Horse at all, it was a Greek Horse. Hence the tag timeo Danaos et dona ferentes which you will recall, is usually and somewhat inaccurately translated as Beware of Greeks bearing gifts. Or doubtless, you would have recalled, had you not attended the LSE.
Hacker: Yes well I'm sure Greek tags are all right in their way, but can we stick to the point, please?
Bernard: Sorry. Sorry, Greek tags?
Hacker: Beware of Greeks bearing gifts. I suppose the EEC equivalent would be Beware of Greeks bearing an olive oil surplus!
Sir Humphrey: Excellent, Minister!
Bernard: Ah. Oh. Well, the point is minister, that just as the Trojan Horse was in fact Greek, what you describe as a Greek tag is in fact Latin. It's obvious, really: the Greeks would never suggest bewaring of themselves, if one could use such a participle, 'bewaring', that is. And it's clearly Latin, not because timeo ends in -o, because the Greek first person also ends in -o. Though actually, there is a Greek word τιμαω, meaning 'I honour'. But the -os ending is a nominative singular termination of the second declension in Greek, and an accusative plural in Latin, of course. Though actually 'Danaos' is not only the Greek for Greek, it's also the Latin for Greek, it's very interesting really...

Whittingdale has said the charter review is looking at whether the broadcaster should continue to be “all things to all people” or have a more “precisely targeted” mission in terms of output. He has previously expressed concerns about the BBC’s flagship news bulletin being broadcast at the same time as ITV’s.
