Re: Star Wars [2]
I was definitely giggling, especially after having gone a Robot Chicken Star Wars binge recently.

I'm fond of the Auralnauts' SW parodies (they've gotten through four films so far).

Speaking of who has been watching what and when... Where are your thoughts on TFA Petty??

I've been expecting a crabbitsplosion in here for a while now, though I'd be delighted if Petty turned out to like the movie too.
Re: Star Wars [2]
I just want to be entertained with his crabbit perspective! Even if Petty likes it some crabbit will still leak through, I figure.

Re: Star Wars [2]
True, I think he draws sustenance from it. Or maybe that's just the buckie, although the two seem to go hand in hand.

Nah, not.. in far too long, really.
I just stumbled across those videos posting the fjm thing. (Was nice to revisit it though.)

Re: Star Wars [2]
I haven't seen it yet. I am somewhat wary, partly because I am uncertain I can judge it on equal merits against its original.
This is because I saw Star Wars aged 7, at xmas after a large xmas party of which the cinema trip was the final part of the days sugar fuelled Santa present giving excitement- and we had no idea what we were going to see and did not live in a world of 24 hour advertising for children or youtube trailers- so when those lights went down I had no idea what was coming right from the opening shot (up to this point my idea of sfx was Doctor Who and original Star Trek).
Hard to judge from my current extremely more crabbit perspective the new film on those terms.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Wouldn't it be cool if the new movie made you feel nostalgic and excited about the series again though?

Yes it would, not highly likely, but it would be good.

Re: Star Wars [2]
I have to agree mostly with what's been already said, so I won't repeat it.
Instead I'd rather ask the question of whether or not we think JJ revived the use of practical effects as opposed to CGI. Obviously a lot of CGI was used, but I'd say at least half of the film was puppets and set pieces and actual physical models.
Was it enough however to put people like PJ in their place? Will more directors attempt to retain the gritty realism of practical effects or is this just going to be a nostalgic Star Wars thing?

Re: Star Wars [2]
I don't think we'll see many films going to the extent that PJ did, but I don't think we're gonna see a major shift away from CGI either. The effects in TFA were really neat but there was plenty of CGI in there, and there's plenty of practical effects in movies that are often slammed for having too much CGI. The Phantom Menace, for instance, had a ton of miniatures.
Re: Star Wars [2]
That's true, I was actually hoping for more practical effects than what we got, particularly with Lupita Nyongo and Andy Serkis's characters. He looked like Azog and she looked like ET.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Ouch. Though I was seeing more of a Voldemort resemblance in Snoke myself. I'm curious to see
- Spoiler:
- what he's like not through a hologram, particularly if he really is Yoda-sized like the fan theory goes
Re: Star Wars [2]
After all these years I broke down and bought the OT on blu-ray. I've only watched ANH so far and while some of the special edition changes are really annoying they seem to be spread out and a majority of the film seems untouched. Well, just cleaned up and with some enhanced effects. Overall the picture looks great. Listening to the commentary George is trying to convince everyone that he had everything in terms of plot planned out ahead of time. Yeah, sure George.

He'll probably be annoyed he isn't more crabbit, then get crabbit thinking about it
