I gave up on the idea of trying to make an overall list of favorite movies a long time ago, since I'd have to watch a shit-ton more movies to really be able to have an informed opinion.  But I have seen a number of movies since the last update that would probably feature prominently in any new list I made.  They include (in no particular order) Apocalypse Now, Barry Lyndon, Lawrence of Arabia, Drive (though not as the high as the preceding three), and Zero Dark Thirty.  Some honorable mentions would likely include Moonrise Kingdom, The Wolf of Wall Street, Rango, Pacific Rim, and 21 Jump Street.  On the anime front, I'd also have to give high praise to Whisper of the Heart, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.

Meh, I can't be bothered to write out a full list right now. It would take too long and I'd be afraid that I missed something.

In recent months the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers was my favourite horror (most effective anyway), I thought Blue Ruin was great, and that's all I can think of at the moment!

My all-time favourite redubbed animated film would absolutely be the Completely Screwed Over Bakshi Dub. Very Happy

In Bruges is fucking amazing. I can't believe I forgot to mention it in my update post above.

It's probably not underrated in the UK or Ireland, but I saw The Wind that Shakes the Barley some time earlier this year and fell in love with the film. I don't think it's very well-known in the US, though I read it was a big hit in Ireland. And Barry Lyndon is my favorite Kubrick film of the ones I've seen, but it only rarely gets brought up in discussions of Kubrick's filmography.

I can never get over how in each of the first three Harry Potter films, Hogwarts is in a completely different location. It's so random. Razz

The sixth has grown on me a little bit once my initial disappointment due to pre-release hype had subsided, but I can't agree with this.  It felt like they were trying to channel Twilight with the focus on the teen love angle, and while that was executed fairly well (arguably better than the book in places), the main plot and especially the finale was far too abridged to leave much emotional impact.  Snape's revelation that he was the Half-Blood Prince in particular just falls completely flat.

I enjoyed HPB at the time, but I watched some of it recently without all the Voldemort stuff it felt kinda...empty as film? Just felt like a load of character beats cobbled together-the plot is pretty thin, the pacing kinda weird, and Dumbledore's death felt more awkward than tragic. Still, Jim Broadbent was great as Slughorn and the production values and acting from the main trio was certainly better than early films (though Bonnie Wright is an appalling 'actress', Ginny is supposed to be fiery and impulsive...not wooden...)

I'll be damned. I just realized there is both a Mulholland Drive and a Mulholland Falls. I think I had watched the second on the strength of what I'd heard about the first.

Agreed. Jim Broadbent was the best thing in that film. Nod I always imagine him as Tom Bombadil. and Bonnie Wright was very bad indeed, wooden, she was probably the worst casting, but in her defence they didn't actually give her any material to work with.
