Happy 20th Anniversary, Netscape Navigator!
The first web browser, Netscape Navigator, was released to the public 20 years ago. I remember the first days of the web, and there wasn't much out there. Then it seems in the space of about a year things began to explode. Navigator was there first, and I raise a glass in tribute.

Mosaic is where it's at, brah.
But seriously, this is an important anniversary and it's hard to overstate the significance of the Mosaic/Netscape/Mozilla lineage. Thanks for making this thread and drawing my attention to it.

I remember using Mac II's to play Oregon Trail in elementary school. Don't remember much about early internet, though. Though, we probably used Netscape to browse Yahoolagins! a couple years later.

I didn't use the internet (at all) until, probably, about 2004.
I do remember the Oregon Trail though!

"Mary has a broken leg."
Honestly though I don't remember the game very well. It was on my older brothers' shared computer and so I rarely ever got to play it myself. (And I usually turned the computer off incorrectly when I went and snuck my way onto it. They got mad at me sometimes).
I also remember a spruced-up version of Pong that somehow involved a bunch of aliens in a bar.
It was strange.
I think that perhaps Dwarf Fortress feels so familiar because, in the back of my mind, I still have a vague memory of the similar looking Oregon Trail.

Re: Happy 20th Anniversary, Netscape Navigator!
Clearly I missed out on an important childhood experience by not playing Oregon Trail.
