{{Scotland just beat England....at cricket..... Shocked Shocked

'Scotland secured the biggest win in their cricketing history with a thrilling six-run defeat of England.
Callum MacLeod's brilliant 140 not out took the home side to 371-5 in glorious batting conditions in Edinburgh.'

Shocked Shocked Shocked  Scotland has a cricket team!!! }}}

{{{ Very Happy  (more seriously well done to England for getting through- now just do your usual and lose in the quarters, as given you've only played a few games so far and the commentators have already mentioned the last time you won it in 1966, more than 50 years ago, about a thousands times already and at every opportunity, please spare us having to listen to it for another 50!! Just lose.  Nod }}}

I don't think the commentary teams have been too bad. We went in to this with low expectations for once so nice to actually feel good about the team. If they go out in the quarters it feels like it will be with a little fight in them for the first time in about 20 years!!

{{ Well you did that the hard way! But England are going to have to step up their game and pose a threat to get further- they had control for large parts, especially in the first half but didn't do anything with it except run themselves into the ground. Very few shots on target. }}

Colombia played an extremely dirty game and I am glad they are out... bonus that it was England that did it.

We played ok, just a few bad decisions from some players that didn't help and somehow not a single set piece landed on a England head.

We will need to step it up as, despite what people make of the draw, Sweden won't be a pushover and if we beat them Croatia and Russia have shown some mettle.

For now, I am just going to soak up a win on penalties. Been a long time coming.

{{{A valiant effort just lacking in the final third again. The stats tell the story, Croatia had twice as many shots at goal and three times as many on target (England only managed 2 shots on target and that includes extra time). They need to find something extra in that last third as all the otherwise good work has gone to waste.

But no shame in reaching the semi's (though as I type this someone is drunkenly singing a mockng version of 'Football's Coming home' in the street outside who seems to disagree! ) }}}

{{{ Very Happy  Difference is we dont care- if we lose we throw a party to get over it and get drunk, if we win we throw a party to celebrate it and get drunk so doesn't matter much really-you lot care so much, its what makes it funny.

Look at the headlines today- here's two just from the BBC alone - 'England Hailed for Making Country Dream Again' and my personal favourite- 'Let's Give Them a Heroes Welcome'- what the fuck for? They played what four games of football and lost, its hardly storming the beaches on D-Day is it?
Its the inflated rhetoric around your national team that makes the inevitable defeat all the more humorous I'm afraid! }}

Hmmm... you seem to care about it until you lose and then tell us you don't really care. But ok...

And it's the inflated rhetoric previously that has led to disappointment and rightful backlash from others about arrogance. This time we went in with low expectations and, I think, can rightfully applaud the team for probably overachieving (heroes welcome is ridiculous but speaks more about that poisonous newspaper group than most fans).

I am not really sure why some Scots find it pleasing to see any English failure. The Welsh manage to support us and we manage (generally) to support you. Seems like an unjustified level of spite that is really just something divisive, not something to gloat about.

{{Its the punditry, the news reporting, the commentators ect that do it Lance- its not the English people, its that pompous ridiculous attitude we see as our neighbourly duty to prick!
This world cup has been better than most (well right up till the end there!)- at least you weren't talking like you deserved to win it just because your England before a ball had even been kicked this time. But your press is still full of it! Very Happy  Plus its funny- taking the piss and laughing at failure is a Scottish national past-time, it kind of has to be with our history!}}}
