Re: All things sporting [3]
You can make a strong case for Brady being the GOAT QB already, but if he ends up with more rings than Montana or Bradshaw it becomes even harder to disagree (not that I think Bradshaw's really in the GOAT conversation anyway). If the Pats do win again, it'll be interesting to see whether Brady gets a fourth Super Bowl MVP, which would also be a new record. Not that I necessarily want to see this occur, but still, it's very impressive, especially since Brady has so often been the one carrying the team with him.
Re: All things sporting [3]
A lot of people seem to dislike the Patriots. Why is that? I got that feeling well before deflategate occurred so isn't because of that.
Do you think it is a case of people not liking others being successful but will look back fondly or is there something about them that people just don't like?

My dad doesn't like Belichick because he always looks like a slob. After deflategate, well they're cheaters! That's always going to be in the forefront of my mind, especially if they're doing well.

Well I think he's thinking more along the lines that this is a guy on national tv and is the head of the team and could represent himself and his team better by appearing cleaner and neater. And it really wouldn't take much effort.
I think we're all guilty of being a little messy now and then.

Idk I really don't care about how he looks. It's just a reason that one person doesn't like them other than that they win a lot.

That's the heart of it I think, but speaking just for myself, over the years I got the sense that they increasingly felt entitled to win, and then of course it just becomes more fun to root against them.
Edit: Bungo, I wonder if that's what bothers your dad about the way that B dresses, as if he felt so superior that he's not really taking the game seriously anymore?

Re: All things sporting [3]
I know some people who have insisted on calling the Patriots the "Cheatriots" since the Spygate scandal broke in 2007, but I think it's mainly (as mentioned above) that they win a lot and come across as arrogant to some people. A lot of people dislike the Yankees and the Lakers (or at least previous generations of those teams) for the same reason.

Go Lions! They've got very little chance, but go Lions!

Bracing myself for countless re-plays of the final play of the Ice Bowl in advance of the Packers-Cowboys game next week.
In all seriousness though, Aaron Rodgers looks fantastic and I'm fairly nervous about our chances. Hopefully Dak, Zeke, and co. will come out in strong form.

Re: All things sporting [3]
Wasn't impressed by the officiating job but I think both teams were affected by it (marking the 15 yard penalty as a five yard one was pretty lolworthy either way). Not the outcome I wanted of course but Rodgers was really impressive, especially on that last throw (though equal credit belongs to Cook for making that catch). Disappointing, especially after getting my hopes up when things started clicking for Dallas, but in the end I'm glad it wasn't a blowout.
Re: All things sporting [3]
The Raiders are moving to Las Vegas, so that's pretty big news!
I've decided how I'm going to decide who to cheer for next football season: If the Vikings get rid of AP I'll give them one more season. If they keep AP I'm going to cheer for the Lions.

Re: All things sporting [3]
So after last Sunday we're back to blowout games, apparently. Hopefully the Super Bowl will be more competitive.
Re: All things sporting [3]
Games were too late for me yesterday so watching replays now. Packers are sucking!
Re: All things sporting [3]
Fuck the Patriots. Now I don't even want to watch the fucking Super Bowl. Have to sit through 4 hours of stupid commercials and pretty boy Brady stomping all over the Falcons. Doesn't sound fun to me anymore.

You might want to give the Falcons a chance Bungo. FiveThirtyEight gives them a 39% chance of winning, which is almost exactly the odds they gave Trump.

Re: All things sporting [3]
The Santa Cruz Warriors beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 123-115 tonight, I can report in. It was my first basketball game, and wasn't nearly as boring as I thought it might be!
It's erm.. D-league? Is that right? It's D-league basketball, but whatever.

Re: All things sporting [3]
Looked like it was going to be another blowout to cap off a pretty crappy Playoffs but it turned into the greatest Super Bowl ever. Goddamn.
Re: All things sporting [3]
Just to recap:
- First Super Bowl to go into overtime (and the first NFL championship game since 1958, aka the Greatest Game Ever Played).
- Largest comeback in Super Bowl history (2.5x the previous record).
- Greatest catch in Super Bowl history (even more than Tyree, Holmes, Manningham, Kearse ... and Jones in this very game).
