Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
Blackadder is great! The seasons with Queenie and the one with the Laurie as the prince are my favorites I think. We saw all episodes a few years back, before that I had seen an episode here and an episode there. Though I seem to remember that the very final episode left me a bit teary eyed.
But what about Dexter? We're watching the latest season now. A killer show.
Danish tv3 showed the first 4 season during Christmas a year or two ago, two episodes a day, I really liked their TV advert.
(Here's the Dexter intro for comparison if you haven't seen it.)

Nobody has plans quite as cunning as Baldrick.- Mrs Figg
Private Baldrick: I have a plan, sir.
Captain Blackadder: Really, Baldrick? A cunning and subtle one?
Private Baldrick: Yes, sir.
Captain Blackadder: As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University?
Private Baldrick: Yes, sir.
Captain Blackadder: Well, I'm afraid it'll have to wait. Whatever it was, I'm sure it was better than my plan to get out of this war by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman round here?
And yes Amarie it has a very powerful ending indeed.
Never seen Dexter although I have heard good things about it.

Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
Father Ted is pure fecking class!
Another class bit of TV was Brass Eye- this requires a bit of set up- when it was broadcast it was done so as a serious documentary not as a satire. It was advertised, press released as being a proper documentary. And media and press fell for it. A bitingly satirical stab at how the media was covering the 'threat of pedophilia in our midsts'.
To get how much they sucked people in the bits where UK celebs do a bit to camera for the campaign imagine your own countries main light entertainment, sports celebs, politicians etc instead-and doing so completely seriously, they thought it ws legit depsite what they were being asked to say being obvious nonsense- and then imagine how furious they were when they finally realised they had been sent up something awful.

I remember the storm over this. They really did push it pre airdate. I managed about 5 mins before I switched it off in horror, still thinking it was serious! I think that was the brilliance of it.

I remember that Eldo was a ATLA fan, but for anyone else, the spin off series "the Legend of Korra" premieres on Saturday, and the first two episodes were posted online!

Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
I remember our old ATLA discussions. I caught the first two episodes right after they were posted online, although that was three weeks ago and there's still another week to go until the third episode airs. However, I've been having a blast reliving old memories watching reruns. Nicktoons is showing the entire series in six hour blocks each day this week, along with their "Avatar Extras" subtitles, which are pretty funny. They also have previews and clips of Korra interspersed throughout.
Pretty much everything about the first two episodes was great. Awesome animation (even better than ATLA, which improved throughout), the music was awesome, the comedy was more mature and somehow even funnier than the original's. I'll stop now before I go on an even longer fan-squee-rant. But one more thing: http://korranation.tumblr.com/ has all sorts of awesome clips and pictures from the show.
I would love it if turns out there are more ATLA fans here, but unfortunately the only other one I remember is Durin and he's been absent for a long time.

Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
I fixed the flash for you, Halfwise. All you have to do is put "[youtube]" tags around the URL; the software automatically converts them to the proper flash tags.
Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
Cool thanks, let's try it on something else.
I recently introduced myself to Dark Shadows via netflix. A Gothic/Noir/Melodrama - an amazing concept that really works because the actors played the melodrama just one tick shy of parody. The results can be mesmerizing. This is not the best example of that, but it's the best I could find of the black and white period. It lost too much atmosphere for me when they went to color.

Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
Eldo - I put exactly the flash code that is now there: why didn't it work? Or is the conversion done behind the scenes to the video?

Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
Which post are you asking about? I can see the video in your latest post fine; were you referring to your earlier one?
Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
Yep, the earlier one I had put in what I thought was exactly the necessary flash code that has now been substituted for 'youtube'.

Me! Me! ATLA has been my friend through two maternity leaves and hours and hours of nursing. It wasn't around when I was 10, so I am fangirling now instead. I just found about Legend of Korra a few days ago actually, haven't looked into it much. A bit worried it won't live up to the Aang and friends.

And since I started thinking about how much I would have loved to play Avatar as a kid, I remembered what I DID play as a kid:
The intro wasn't dubbed, but the rest was Swedish! XD

Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
I was watching the best of Parkinson earlier- a chat show host, but not the modern sort where its all about them, the old fashioned sort where it was all about the guest.
Heres is one of his most famous interviews with muhammad ali when ali was at the top of his game as Heavyweight Chamion of the World.
Now that is a chat show- so you pioss of Norton and Ross and Letterman!
And just for good measure and becsue it makes me smile everytime here is Kenneth Williams on Parkinson recreating his rustic character from radio comedy Round the Horn, singingthe nonsense folksong parody "The Ballad Of The Woggler's Moulie". And yes that is a young Billy Connolly falling about laughing in the background.

Re: Greatest TV Shows Ever
I've dreamed of having my own chat show. "The Orwell McOdo Show". I would only ever focus on the one person in Forumshire I find fabulously handsome, witty and intelligent! It would be both old fashioned and that modern type, Petty.
{{Hold on, Orwell! ..... Mmmm.... bears thinking on... Does Forumshire need a Talk Show -- now, haven't tried that yet... }}}
